Mikey Madison Passes on Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie With Ryan Gosling

Mikey Madison has no plans to explore a Galaxy Far, Far Away as her debut project following her win of the Best Actress Oscar.

According to reports, it appears that Shawn Levy, who is known for directing films like “Deadpool” and “Wolverine,” proposed a role in his upcoming “Star Wars” project to Madison. However, further discussions between them have ceased, with Madison deciding not to accept the role.

From what I’ve heard before, it’s me, as a cinephile, who’s excited to share that screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, known for “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project,” is penning the script for an upcoming film starring none other than Ryan Gosling. Interestingly enough, Shawn Levy, who will soon be part of the elite group of directors to have worked with both Canadian stars named Ryan, has been working on this project since late last year and is also producing it through his 21 Laps company. Additionally, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, is involved in production as well. So, get ready for what promises to be an amazing cinematic experience!

This upcoming movie is reported as a separate production, unrelated to the Skywalker Saga that ended with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. For now, any other plot specifics are being kept under wraps.

The upcoming movie, currently unnamed, will focus on “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” the first “Star Wars” production given approval in over five years. This production, having wrapped up its main filming, is scheduled for release on May 22, 2026.

Regarding Madison, the 24-year-old actress, she’s widely recognized for her performances in the FX series “Better Things,” as well as movies like “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood” and “Scream 5.” However, it was Sean Baker’s movie, “Anora,” that marked a significant shift – it was her first role where she didn’t have to audition.

Creating that film was no walk in the park, yet the Academy’s voters seemed to believe that Madison effortlessly pulled it off. We’ll simply have to keep our eyes peeled to find out which upcoming project she decides to tackle next.
