Mikey Madison, Kirsten Dunst Starring in ‘Reptilia,’ Exotic Animal Trade Thriller From ‘Monos’ Director Alejandro Landes Echavarría

In her Oscar-winning performance for “Anora”, Mikey Madison will next appear alongside Kirsten Dunst in the movie, “Reptilia”. This chilling narrative unfolds around a dental hygienist who is enticed by an enigmatic mermaid into the sinister and waterlogged world of Florida’s exotic pet market.

Filmmaker Alejandro Landes Echavarría, known for the surreal hostage drama “Monos,” will be in charge of directing the upcoming film titled “Reptilia.” This project is based on a script co-written by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman. The production companies Imperative Entertainment, Pastel, AF Films, as well as Landes Echavarría himself under his A Stela Cine label, are slated to produce the feature. Black Bear will be providing the financing for this project.

In partnership, UTA Independent Film Group and 3. West Entertainment will oversee the distribution rights within the United States for our upcoming film. This movie will debut to global distributors at the Cannes Market through Charades. The main filming is set to start this autumn.

Landes Echavarría’s earlier work, “Monos,” initially screened at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award. Later, it won the Best Film award at the 2019 BFI London Film Festival and was chosen as Colombia’s submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards. In contrast, Landes Echavarría’s first narrative film, “Porfirio,” was premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2011. His debut as a director, however, was with the documentary “Cocalero,” which made its premiere at Sundance in 2007.

Prior to her breakout performance in “Anora”, Madison previously featured in “Scream 5” and played a secondary role in Quentin Tarantino’s movie titled “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. In television, she was part of the main cast on FX’s series called “Better Things.

Kirsten Dunst garnered the Best Actress award at Cannes for her work in “Melancholia” and was also nominated for an Oscar for “The Power of the Dog.” Some of her other notable roles include those in “The Virgin Suicides,” “Marie Antoinette,” and “Spider-Man.” Upcoming projects for Dunst involve working with Derek Cianfrance in “Roofman” alongside Channing Tatum, as well as collaborating with Ruben Östlund on “The Entertainment System Is Down.

Landes Echavarría is associated with UTA and the law firm Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Shikora & Clark. On the other hand, Dunst is linked to UTA, Entertainment 360, and Hansen Jacobson. Lastly, Madison is represented by UTA and Authentic Talent & Literary Management.
