Mikey Madison in Talks to Lead A24’s ‘Masque of the Red Death’

Mikey Madison has secured another high-profile role following her Oscar win in “Anora.” The actress is currently negotiating to star in “The Masque of the Red Death,” a film co-produced by A24 and Picturestart, which is directed by Charlie Polinger and offers an unprecedented twist on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story of the same name.

Madison steps into the role previously held by Sydney Sweeney, as it’s reported that she had to withdraw because of scheduling issues. Polinger and Lucy McKendrick are set to serve as executive producers. The film distribution rights have been obtained by A24 on a global scale.

Before securing the lead role in Sean Baker’s “Anora,” which won her both a BAFTA and Independent Spirit Award, Madison had previously acted in “Scream 5” and featured in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” She was also part of the cast for FX’s series “Better Things.

Following her Oscar victory, Madison has been sought-after extensively, yet declined an offer to star in the upcoming, unnamed “Star Wars” production helmed by director Shawn Levy, who is famed for directing “Deadpool” and “Wolverine”.

Madison is represented by UTA and Authentic Talent & Literary Management.
