Universal Pictures is planning a new installment in The Exorcist franchise, marking only the second time since 2005 that a new film will be released. The movie, slated for March 2027, will be directed by the filmmaker known for his adaptations of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep (2019) and The Life of Chuck (2024). Following the release of The Exorcist: Believer in 2023 – a film that didn’t resonate with audiences or critics – Universal is aiming for a revitalized approach to William Peter Blatty’s original story, which first became a classic horror film in 1973.
Mike Flanagan’s new take on The Exorcist is attracting a talented cast, with Scarlett Johansson, known for her roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now entering the DC Universe, leading the way. The latest actor joining the film is another well-known name from the superhero genre, promising to bring even more energy to this horror reboot.
Universal has cast Ana de Armas in a currently unknown role for Mike Flanagan’s upcoming film, The Exorcist, according to Deadline. De Armas recently received praise for her performance as Desiree “Desi” Lopez Molina in the Netflix movie The Rip, alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. She’s also well-known for playing Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, a film that was part of the final releases in the DC Extended Universe.

Warner Bros.
Sasha Calle isn’t the only big name joining the new Exorcist film. A year before its release, several actors known for their work in superhero movies are bringing their skills to the horror genre. Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne is also on board, adding to the star power. He’s no stranger to superhero films, having played Perry White in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, and Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, known for his role as Baron Mordo in the Doctor Strange films, is joining the Exorcist series. Also joining the cast is Diane Lane, who famously played Martha Kent in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Rounding out the confirmed actors is Jacobi Jupe, recently seen as Michael Darling in the 2023 Peter Pan & Wendy and with a role in Chloé Zhao’s upcoming film Hamnet.
