It appears that Summer H. Howell is close to securing the lead role for Mike Flanagan’s forthcoming “Carrie” television series on Amazon, as we have learned directly from our trusted sources.
Negotiations are reportedly underway for Howell to potentially join the show, with neither Reps for Amazon nor Howell providing comments at this time.
It’s currently rumored that “Carrie,” inspired by Stephen King’s famous novel, was being developed by Amazon back in October 2024. While an official confirmation about the series greenlight hasn’t been made yet, there are strong whispers that it might happen very soon.
(In this rephrased version, I have attempted to use simpler language and a more conversational tone while preserving the original meaning.)
The show’s tagline presents it as a “courageous and contemporary retelling of the tale of outcast high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent most of her life isolated under her overbearing mother’s care. Following her father’s unexpected demise, Carrie navigates the unfamiliar territory of public school, endures a humiliating incident that rocks her town, and discovers the emergence of strange psychokinetic abilities.
Actress Fiona Howell is well-versed in the horror genre, having appeared in several films from the “Child’s Play” series, specifically “Curse of Chucky” and “Cult of Chucky.” She has also taken on roles in other genre movies such as “Hunter Hunter,” “Spirit in the Blood,” “Time Cut,” and “Harland Manor,” plus various episodes of the horror anthology show “Channel Zero.” Furthermore, Howell starred in the Disney+ film “Clouds,” an adaptation of Laura Sobiech’s celebrated memoir “Fly a Little Higher: How God Answered a Mom’s Small Prayer in a Big Way.
She is repped by The Characters Talent Agency and LINK Entertainment.
Flanagan takes on the roles of scriptwriter, executive producer, showrunner, and director for “Carrie”. Meanwhile, Trevor Macy is involved as an executive producer too.
Carrie, which was Stephen King’s debut novel, first hit shelves in 1974. The book soon skyrocketed to the top of bestseller lists and was later transformed into a movie in 1976, featuring Sissy Spacek as the lead character. Directed by Brian DePalma, this horror classic earned over $30 million while only costing around $2 million to produce. It’s often hailed as one of the greatest horror films ever made. Besides Spacek, Carrie has also been portrayed on screen by Angela Bettis in a 2002 NBC TV movie and Chloë Grace Moretz in the 2013 remake version.
