Microsoft locks Discord server as ‘Microslop’ spam piles up amid AI backlash

Microsoft first banned the term ‘Microslop’ on its Copilot Discord server. However, due to a surge in spam, they’ve now made the server completely private.

Like many other big tech companies, Microsoft has been rapidly developing and integrating artificial intelligence into its products. They’ve included Copilot, their AI assistant, directly into Windows 11, as well as programs like Microsoft Office and other software they offer.

The increasing use of AI is affecting how well PCs run and how people enjoy using them. A recent study from Harvard found that AI tools can actually make work more difficult, not easier. Many people have also voiced their concerns about Microsoft’s focus on AI, sharing their criticism online.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella received criticism after a December 2025 blog post where he encouraged the industry to adopt AI. Following this, many people began referring to the company as ‘Microslop’.

The term gained so much attention that Microsoft temporarily banned it from their Discord server, immediately before the server went offline.

‘Microslop’ spam overwhelms official Microsoft Discord server

So, I was hanging out in the official Microsoft Copilot Discord, and I noticed something weird. They’re blocking the term ‘Microslop’! Seriously, if anyone types it, the message just disappears – no one can even see it. WindowsLatest was the first to point it out, but it’s pretty obvious now if you’re in the server.

People quickly found ways around the word filter, often substituting ‘o’ with the number ‘0’, and similar tricks. The problem rapidly escalated beyond control.

Microsoft first limited messaging for some users within specific Discord servers, then blocked access to entire channels, ultimately leading to the server being taken offline.

The company contacted WindowsLatest to explain that their Discord channel was being targeted by spammers who were trying to flood it with harmful content and disrupt the community.

We’ve temporarily taken the server offline to add better security measures. This will protect our users from harmful spam and keep the server a safe and helpful place for everyone.

Update: The server is now locked, history is now hidden,

So, the joke’s still going around everywhere online, which is awesome. I even found this hilarious browser extension – it changes ‘Microsoft’ to ‘Microslop’ automatically! It’s a small thing, but it cracks me up every time I see it.

It’s unclear when the Discord server will reopen. Microsoft hasn’t announced a specific date yet.
