As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I must admit that I’ve grown accustomed to the ebb and flow of production schedules. The news of Michelle Yeoh‘s delayed appearance in “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has left me both intrigued and slightly amused.

“Michelle Yeoh will not appear in the third film, but she’ll feature in both the fourth and fifth movies,” Cameron clarified to Entertainment Weekly during Disney’s D23 event. “There seems to have been some misunderstanding about this.”

In 2021, Jon Landau, the late producer, shared a picture of Yeoh on the set of Avatar 3, hinting at her involvement in that installment. Notably, James Cameron filmed “Fire and Ash” and some parts of Avatar 4 alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, which was released in 2022.

“Cameron shared with EW that she’ll join us shortly to play an engaging, entertaining role. He added, ‘We shouldn’t jump the gun too much. The plot has been in the works for decades, with scripts written up to movie number 5. That means we’ve been developing parts of film 4 concurrently, primarily because our cast is young and we needed to capture them while they were still youthful.'”

“The director expressed his fondness for Michelle, stating that while she was already a movie star, her popularity has skyrocketed to unprecedented levels, turning her into a massive cultural sensation. He’s eagerly anticipating collaborating with her in the future.”

On August 9th at the D23 expo, James Cameron along with “Avatar” actors Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington unveiled the authentic title of the upcoming third “Avatar” movie, also presenting some artwork that offers a glimpse into the film.

“Cameron shared with the crowd that they’d be witnessing a greater depth of Pandora than ever imagined. He described it as an exhilarating journey and a visual treat, yet one with higher emotional intensity than previously experienced.”

The third movie is planned to be released in theaters on December 19, 2025, with “Avatar 4” following on December 21, 2029, and “Avatar 5” slated for release on December 19, 2031.
