Michael Jackson fans will have to wait a bit longer for Antoine Fuqua’s biopic “Michael.”
On a recent fourth-quarter 2025 conference call for Lionsgate, their CEO, Jon Feltheimer, provided some exciting news about a movie featuring Jaafar Jackson, Jackson’s nephew, marking his first on-screen appearance within this production.
Regarding our Michael Jackson biopic, we’re thrilled about the 3.5 hours of fantastic footage from producers Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua. We plan to reveal more details about its release strategy and timeline within the upcoming weeks. I should mention that it seems probable that we will shift ‘Michael’ out of our current fiscal year, which may affect our financial results for Fiscal Year 26, but it will significantly strengthen our lineup for Fiscal Year 27.
The financial year concludes on March 31st, 2026, which suggests that the movie (or movies) Feltheimer mentioned are expected to premiere after April 1st, 2026. Previously, it was reported by EbMaster that the film might be divided into two parts and its release date, originally set for October 3rd, 2025, has been pushed back.
Last year at Lionsgate CinemaCon, “Michael” played a significant role, however, no clips from the project were displayed during this year’s event. The movie, which Graham King, producer of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, is behind, completed its main filming in May 2024. However, John Logan’s script for the film is currently being revised before reshoots can take place.
The movie titled ‘Michael’ with a budget approximately $155 million has Michael, Colman Domingo, and Nia Long in its cast. In this film, Colman Domingo and Nia Long play family leaders Joe and Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller takes on the role of Jackson’s lawyer and advisor John Branca. Larenz Tate portrays Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, while Laura Harrier plays Suzanne de Passe, a trailblazing female music executive. Lastly, Kat Graham is set to play the legendary Diana Ross.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that this upcoming biopic boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Among them, Jessica Sula portrays La Toya Jackson, my dear older sister of the legendary Michael Jackson. Liv Symone takes on the role of Gladys Knight, and Kevin Shinick brings Dick Clark to life. KeiLyn Durrel Jones steps into the shoes of Bill Bray, a former security personnel who later became a trusted friend and confidante to Michael. Lastly, Kendrick Sampson portrays Quincy Jones, the iconic figure in the industry who first crossed paths with Michael Jackson at the tender age of 12. Their relationship would culminate in three of Michael’s most successful albums: “Off the Wall” (1979), “Thriller” (1982), and “Bad” (1987).
