The Michael Jackson biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua, titled “Michael,” might be divided into two films. This division could lead to a postponement of the original October 3rd release date for the Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International project.
In this movie, Jaafar Jackson, Jackson’s nephew, is set to make his first on-screen appearance. Colman Domingo and Nia Long will portray Joe and Katherine Jackson, the family leaders, while Miles Teller takes on the role of Jackson’s attorney and advisor, John Branca. Larenz Tate will star as Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, and Laura Harrier will bring Suzanne de Passe, a pioneering female music executive, to life. Lastly, Kat Graham is set to depict the legendary Diana Ross.
In this production, you’ll find Jessica Sula portraying La Toya Jackson, Michael’s elder sibling. Liv Symone takes on the role of Gladys Knight. Kevin Shinick is cast as Dick Clark. KeiLyn Durrel Jones plays Bill Bray, a former security member who later became a trusted friend and confidant to Michael Jackson. Kendrick Sampson portrays Quincy Jones, an industry heavyweight who first met Michael when he was only 12 years old. Together, they worked on some of Michael’s most successful albums including “Off the Wall” from 1979, “Thriller” in 1982, and “Bad” in 1987.
Earlier this year, Domingo expressed his keen interest in understanding the intricacies of Joe Jackson’s life. He stated, ‘Yes, we have an image of him and how he navigated through life, a powerful and intimidating figure. But what about the man who fostered legendary performers and created a family dynasty? I want to delve deeper and uncover who this man truly was.’ Domingo’s aim is not just to explore Joe Jackson’s survival strategies in life but also the tools he passed on to his children, whether it be his parenting style or his origins. Essentially, Domingo wants to construct a comprehensive, multi-dimensional portrait of a soulful human being, and he was thrilled to contribute whatever he could towards portraying Joe Jackson.
