One of Hollywood’s biggest names is fully on board the hype train.
Tom Cruise took to Instagram to lavish high praises on director Ryan Coogler’s critically-acclaimed horror-drama, by posting a picture of himself holding his ticket against the movie poster backdrop. In his caption, he said, “Bravo, Ryan, Michael, and the entire team!” He further emphasized that the film should be watched in theaters and one must not miss the end credits. Michael B. Jordan, the lead actor, responded to Cruise’s comment with a thank you note for his love and support.
In the first original movie by Ryan Coogler since Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the Black Panther series, the film Sinners features Jordan playing twin gangsters Smoke and Stack. They return to their old Mississippi hometown to open a juke joint for its residents. However, the grand opening is disrupted when a vampire arrives, turning locals into his army. The survivors are forced to make a final stand within the juke joint. Coogler stated that the movie was inspired by his family and ancestry, while also being influenced by filmmakers such as Jordan Peele, Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Spielberg, Ava DuVernay, among others. Upon its release, the film received near-unanimous praise from critics and audiences, becoming Coogler’s highest-rated movie to date.
Sinners Is a Major Success
Not only did Sinners captivate critics, but it also proved to be a blockbuster hit, raking in over $161 million globally on a production cost of $90 million. This unexpected success alleviated the studio’s concerns about the film’s budget, placing it alongside A Minecraft Movie as one of Warner Bros. Pictures’ top-grossing films of 2025. Director Ryan Coogler clarified that unlike Creed and Black Panther, Sinners was intended to be a self-contained story. He explained, “I wanted the film to feel like a complete meal: starters, main course, and dessert. I wanted it all present. I wanted it to be a cohesive and finished work. That’s how I approached making it. That was my intention from the start.
In the upcoming movie “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” Ethan Hunt, portrayed by Cruise, will make another appearance as an IMF agent. This film finds Hunt and his team in a desperate struggle to thwart the sinister AI called the Entity before it’s too late. Previews for the movie not only offer nostalgic references to previous films but also showcase an exhilarating stunt where Hunt clings to a biplane’s wing while it performs a mid-air flip.
Sinners is currently playing in theaters.
