Michael B. Jordan has shown an inclination towards creating a real-life anime adaption, potentially hinting at the inspiration behind his choices among his top five preferred anime shows.

The actor who played The Sinner is open about his affection for anime, and this enthusiasm is evident in his performances. In Creed 3, which he directed, there’s a scene where Jonathan Majors’ character delivers a blow reminiscent of Goku’s meteor smash punch against Frieza from the anime series Dragon Ball Z.
A few months ago, he unfortunately couldn’t attend the re-release of IMAX’s Princess Mononoke from Studio Ghibli; therefore, they arranged a special viewing just for him instead.
Currently, he’s planning out his upcoming tasks, which include reimagining The Thomas Crown Affair and potentially converting an anime into a live-action adaptation.
Dragon Ball fans want Michael B. Jordan to make a live-action movie
In a 2023 chat on BBC Radio 1 with host Ali Plumb, Jordan was inquired about his recommended top five introductory anime series within the genre.
He remarked, “One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and Hunter x Hunter – those are some excellent team members to begin with.”
He commented, “One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and Hunter x Hunter make up a solid starting lineup.
In a different GQ video, he admitted that Naruto is his all-time favorite anime series. “I’ve been a fan for many years now, since I was around 12 or 13 years old. I’ve watched as Sasuke and Naruto grew up. When it ended, I felt quite emotional and even shed some tears,” he stated.
It turns out that the production of a real-life version of Naruto, which is currently being worked on by Destin Daniel Cretton, the director behind Shang-Chi and also Spider-Man: Fresh Start, has been announced. Given this, it seems like Jordan won’t be involved in the project.

If there’s no interference from the studio, I have confidence that Michael B. Jordan will handle it skillfully. Notice how Creed III seems to draw inspiration from anime, it’s evident that he appreciates anime.
I hope they produce a high-quality Dragon Ball film.”
“They should make a live-action adaptation of Dragon Ball.”
“Michael B. Jordan would likely do an excellent job with a live-action Dragon Ball, so they should give him the creative freedom to produce it.”
4. Combined: I hope for a well-executed live-action adaptation of Dragon Ball, and believe Michael B. Jordan is the right person to lead the project with creative freedom. (This is a combination of the comments that focuses on the main ideas.)
To date, there’s just been one live-action Dragon Ball film: Dragonball Evolution from 2009, often criticized for being among the poorest movies ever made. Maybe it’s time for Jordan to rectify the past and create a live-action movie that’s actually enjoyable to watch.
