MGM+ Finally Sets Release Window for Kit Harington’s A Tale of Two Cities

Audiences are getting a first glimpse of Kit Harington in the new MGM+ series, A Tale of Two Cities. The premiere date has also been announced, so fans know when they can start watching.

MGM+ and the BBC have released the first images from their upcoming four-part series based on A Tale of Two Cities. The show is scheduled to debut later this year.

This new adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, directed by Richard Clark and written by Daniel West, features Kit Harington as Sydney Carton, Mirren Mack as Lucie Manette, and François Civil as Charles Darnay. The story follows these three characters as they navigate a complex love triangle during the turbulent times of the War of 1778 and the early stages of the French Revolution.

What Is A Tale of Two Cities All About?

Set in London in 1782, during a time of conflict between France and Britain, A Tale of Two Cities follows Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack) whose world is turned upside down when she learns her father, believed to have died nearly two decades ago, might still be alive. A message arrives from Paris delivered by Charles Darnay (François Civil), a French exile, but he is quickly accused of treason. Lucie seeks the assistance of Sydney Carton (Kit Harington), a remarkably skilled but unpredictable lawyer, hoping he can secure Darnay’s release and help her find her father in Paris.

The story centers around Lucie and the complicated love triangle she finds herself in with both Darnay and Carton. Both men compete for her affection, leaving Lucie torn between them. Despite their physical resemblance, they are very different people, and their fates become intertwined, connecting them through shared experiences of joy, sorrow, marriage, and even murder.

What Audiences Can Expect from MGM+ and the BBC’s A Tale of Two Cities When It Debuts

MGM+ and the BBC are creating a new limited series based on Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, a story that’s been adapted for film and television many times, dating back to 1911. This will be the BBC’s fourth version of the classic novel, and they promise it will be their most intense and dramatic adaptation yet.

When the series was announced in 2025, producers shared their excitement about collaborating with Polly Williams, Sarah Best, Leo Becker, and the team at Federation Stories to adapt Dickens’ classic story for the screen. They described the adaptation as a suspenseful historical thriller, featuring a passionate and complicated modern love triangle, and promised to release it to audiences in 2026.

A Tale of Two Cities from MGM+ and the BBC is slated to premiere sometime later this year.
