Metroidvania action RPG Blighted announced for consoles and PC to be released in 2026

DrinkBox Studios, creators of ‘Guacamelee!’ and ‘Nobody Saves the World’, recently unveiled their latest project – an action RPG titled ‘Blighted’. Expected to launch in 2026 for both PC and consoles, the exact console platforms are yet to be disclosed.

The creators refer to it as a “psychadelic western horror” where players can either embark on this adventure alone or with friends. As combatants are vanquished, a phenomenon called “Blight” is slowly accumulated, which not only modifies the game environment but also adjusts enemy interactions, uncovers hidden paths, and offers numerous other enhancements.

In the world I inhabit as a gamer, Blighted is a haunting narrative where the departed are sown with seeds that sprout into trees laden with fruit preserving their recollections. Generations have carried on this custom, learning from the past until one rogue Sorcisto disrupted it by consuming raw brains. This reckless act unleashed Blight upon our world, razing my village and reducing a forest of memory trees to ashes. Now, I must rise as the sole survivor, reclaim the generations of knowledge that was mine, and restore the lost memories.

In ancient times, deceased individuals were interred with seeds implanted in their brains. As these seeds sprouted and grew into trees laden with fruit, the memories associated with them would be preserved. This knowledge was then transmitted from one generation to another through the fruits of memory trees.

This situation persisted until the individual known as Sorcisto contaminated the rite. By devouring uncooked brains, Sorcisto accumulated immense power and wisdom. He annihilated the entire village inhabited by the player, razed its grove of memory trees, and spread a lethal plague called Blight throughout the world.

As the solitary figure left standing amidst Sorcisto’s destruction, you strive tirelessly to recover the lost memories of your tribe, all while battling against the encroaching corruption that threatens to consume you as well.
