Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will become available on both the current Nintendo Switch and the future Switch 2 console. The Switch 2 version offers improved graphics, but there’s another compelling reason to choose this one – the control options. The Switch 2 supports mouse controls for certain games, and in Metroid Prime 4, these controls are incredibly smooth and intuitive.
In my gaming experience with Metroid Prime 4, I found myself amazed by the seamless control options they’ve got going on. Unlike other games where you have to manually switch between dual-stick, gyro pointer (like in the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii), and mouse controls, this game smartly adapts based on what action I’m performing. This is particularly cool with the mouse controls – just lay my Joy-Con down flat and voila! It instantly switches to mouse mode, making the transition smoother than a Samus suit sliding across the ice.

During the demo, I discovered that dual-stick controls were particularly beneficial when confronting a boss. Although I could manage with mouse controls for the majority of the demo, I predominantly used dual-stick controls, similar to those in traditional shooters. However, I struggled to achieve the accuracy needed to hit the boss’ vulnerable spots using this method. Switching to mouse controls made it significantly easier. The seamless transition is what really stood out, as I didn’t have to access a menu or press any button to change control schemes; it simply functioned smoothly.
The new Switch 2 model will debut on June 5 in the U.S., priced at $450. Alongside it, there’s a bundle going for $500 that comes with a digital copy of Mario Kart World. If purchased individually, Mario Kart World costs $80. As for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, its release date and price are yet to be revealed. However, other games upgrading for the Switch 2 are charging a higher price for their enhanced versions. So, it’s likely that the Switch 2 version of these games will cost more than their original Switch 1 counterparts.
