After a prolonged break from releasing original games, MercurySteam (creators of Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread) has unveiled a sneak peek at their upcoming dark fantasy action-RPG titled Blades of Fury. The trailer below presents the character Aran de Lira, who is gearing up to confront perilous enemies in accordance with his destiny. Fortunately for Aran, he’s well-equipped with weapons that he himself has designed.
In the game’s background story, Aran, being the eldest of the King’s Ward, finds himself compelled to act when Queen Nerea employs sinister sorcery to strengthen her rule in the kingdom. As a result of Nerea’s enchantment, all steel within the realm has been transformed into stone. However, only the wicked beasts under her control possess divine metal capable of destroying any regular weapon aimed at them.
As a devoted fan, I find myself eagerly anticipating the moment when Aran must craft his own weapons to overcome the strength of divine metal. The selection of weapons is vast, each with unique qualities that make them effective against various game monsters. Choosing wisely in this weaponry dilemma is crucial; making the wrong choice could lead to dire outcomes, leaving Aran powerless against his adversaries.
MercurySteam hints that parts of the storyline remain a mystery, suggesting players will learn information as their characters do, relying on their instincts and bravery to fill in the gaps. Fortunately, protagonist Aran doesn’t have to navigate the unknown alone; his ally, Adso, can offer advice during combat to help defeat monstrous enemies. Moreover, Adso understands the tongue of an ancient craftsman, a skill that will be crucial for them as they venture through treacherous castles and labyrinthine passages.
On May 22nd, you’ll find “Blades of Fire” available for play on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC through the Epic Games Store.
