Metaphor: ReFantazio Is Atlus's Fastest-Selling Game Ever, Topping 1M Already

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must admit that I’ve seen my fair share of gaming releases, but none have left me as spellbound as Metaphor: ReFantazio. This game has single-handedly shattered records and expectations, making it Atlus’s fastest-selling title ever. It’s like watching a freight train barreling down the tracks, gathering speed with each passing second.

On its debut day, the sales of the new RPG from Atlus, Metaphor: ReFantazio, have already exceeded one million units. This sets a new record for Atlus, outpacing the previous best-seller, Persona 3 Reload, which was achieved in 2024.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news straight from Sega (as translated by Eurogamer). In a recent press release, it was revealed that the total sales figure encompasses both physical and digital versions of the game. To add to this, the talented team at Studio Zero has expressed their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who’s backed the game. I couldn’t agree more with their sentiments!

This game is currently boasting more than 60,000 simultaneous players on Steam, making it the highest among all Atlus games to date. For reference, Sega’s other 2024 releases like Persona 3 Reload and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth reached approximately 45,000 to 46,000 simultaneous players on Steam at their peak. Other role-playing games such as Final Fantasy XV and XVI peaked with around 29,000 and 27,000 concurrent players respectively.

ReFantazio can now be played on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Each platform offers a trial version for you to test out, and progress made during the demos will carry over to the full game, unlocking achievements as well. Additionally, the PC version at Fanatical is currently being offered with a small discount.

In our 10/10 TopMob review of Metaphor: ReFantazio, we expressed that this game excellently merges Atlus’ talent for developing emotionally gripping RPGs with clever plot turns, an adventurous spirit, and dreamlike optimism to produce one of their best games to date.
