As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the enchanting world of Persona games, I must say that Metaphor: ReFantazio has left me utterly spellbound! In my 24 years of gaming, I have rarely witnessed such an overwhelming response from the community as this.
Within its initial day of launch, Metaphor: ReFantazio surpassed the simultaneous player count of every Persona game on Steam, nearly doubling the figures of games like Persona 3 and 5, and effortlessly outperforming Persona 4 in this aspect.
Originating from Atlus, the developers behind Persona, Metaphor: ReFantazio stands out as significantly more than an ordinary JRPG. In our assessment, we awarded it a perfect score of five stars and described the journey as “an outstanding game-of-the-year contender and a triumph for Atlus to conclude the year with.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of excitement and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts, knowing that Refantazio made a massive splash upon its debut! According to SteamCharts, it racked up an impressive 60,507 concurrent players in the first 24 hours alone. And if that wasn’t enough, Atlas announced they had already sold over one million copies within the same timeframe! It’s clear that Refantazio has struck a chord with gamers everywhere!
Indeed, it’s important to note that the 60,507 simultaneous players on Steam doesn’t quite compare to the one million total sales. However, given that these figures only cover Steam users, it’s reasonable to assume that the number of concurrent players across other platforms is likely to be significantly higher.
Interestingly enough, despite reaching an all-time high, this peak has significantly reduced the number of players for three colossal Persona games.
Based on SteamCharts data, the highest number of simultaneous players for Persona 3 Reload reached a staggering 36,703. Notably, the peak concurrent players for Persona 4 Golden was significantly lower at 29,984. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that the critically-adored Persona 5 Royal boasts an all-time high of 35,298 players, despite being below the peaks of both previous games, showcasing the enduring popularity of this adventure.
It’s also worth noting, there’s a concurrent playerbase of around 14,000 at the time of writing, much higher than the 1,000 sitting in 3 and 4.
To put it simply, the numbers associated with Metaphor: ReFantazio are almost insignificant when compared to the massive and widespread popularity of this adventure. What’s astonishing is that the game hasn’t been fully released yet, only available for certain players (PC users in New Zealand, Korea, Japan, and Central America) as of October 12th. It’s an even greater testament to its success.
