MetaDAO Lands a Big Fish: Robin Hanson Joins the Fray

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a revolutionary idea, must be in want of a worthy partner to bring it to fruition. And so it is with Robin Hanson, the esteemed creator of futarchy, who has joined forces with MetaDAO, a most intriguing endeavour in the realm of crypto governance.

As a professor of economics at George Mason University, Mr. Hanson has long been an advocate for the notion that markets, rather than politicians or their constituents, are better equipped to determine the most desirable outcomes. And now, as a paid advisor to MetaDAO, he shall bring his expertise to bear on this most noble of pursuits.

But, dear reader, you may ask, how does this futarchy business work? Fear not, for it is quite simple, really. In the case of MetaDAO, the project created markets wherein traders could speculate on the price of META tokens, were Mr. Hanson to be hired as an advisor. And, as fate would have it, the traders decreed that his presence would be a boon to the project, and thus, he was engaged for a sum of 20.9 META tokens, valued at a most respectable $24,000.

But, alas, Mr. Hanson’s motivations are not purely pecuniary. Nay, he seeks “glory” in the pursuit of a better governance mechanism, one that shall change the world, no less! And, as he so eloquently put it, “If we could actually have a better governance mechanism, we could change the world.”

And so, dear reader, it seems that MetaDAO and Mr. Hanson are a match made in heaven. The pseudonymous co-founder of MetaDAO, Proph3t, has been in discussions with Mr. Hanson for nigh on a year, and their collaboration promises to be a most fruitful one. Together, they shall co-author blog posts on new futarchic mechanisms, and Mr. Hanson shall offer his expertise on mechanism design and strategy.

MetaDAO, for those who may be unfamiliar, debuted at last year’s Solana hacker house, mtnDAO, in Salt Lake City, and has since been adopted by a growing number of projects in the Solana ecosystem. And, as Mr. Hanson so astutely observed, crypto enthusiasts are particularly receptive to futarchy, as it aligns with their own narratives of innovation and changing the world.

And so, dear reader, it seems that this union of MetaDAO and Mr. Hanson shall be a most felicitous one. For, as the great man himself said, “When people make money in the world, they need to tell themselves a story about why they made the money. Crypto people tell themselves it’s their insight to potential innovation and changing the world.” 🤑
