Meghan McCain Rejected ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Three Times Because ‘I Want to Run for Office at Some Point’ and ‘Don’t Want to Publicly Humiliate Myself’

As someone who has spent a good part of my life navigating the world of politics and media, I can certainly empathize with Meghan McCain‘s decision to decline offers for reality TV shows like “Dancing With The Stars.” While the prospect of a year’s worth of income from such a show might be tempting, especially when considering the financial struggles that many in our field face, I too have had dreams of running for political office.

Meghan McCain said on the latest episode of her “Citizen McCain” podcast that she has turned down three offers to compete on “Dancing With the Stars” over the years (via Entertainment Weekly). She’s also rejected other competition series, mainly because she knows signing on for a reality show risks public humiliation, and she still harbors dreams of running for political office. According to McCain: “You can’t do both. You just can’t.”

“She shared that she was offered ‘Dancing With the Stars’ three different times, but declined every opportunity as she doesn’t want to expose herself to public embarrassment due to her lack of dancing skills. She also mentioned that she steers clear of reality TV and has been approached for numerous reality shows more times than one might imagine. To her, it seems strange that her personality would be a good fit for such platforms because she is quite reserved in real life and believes she wouldn’t do well on them.”

McCain pointed out that she could take a break from work for about a year if she chose to participate in a reality competition program, given the estimated earnings her friend Clay Aiken received from appearing on “The Masked Singer.”

“She didn’t reveal the exact amount [it pays], as she doesn’t have his permission to do so. However, he appeared on ‘The Masked Singer’, and it’s a gig that everyone would likely aspire to land. In essence, ‘The Masked Singer’ is a lucrative opportunity.”

“She stated that she avoids reality TV because there’s a small part of her life reserved for potential future political office, which doesn’t mix well with such shows. It simply isn’t feasible to pursue both serious roles at the same time. If she were in dire straits and needed help, she would welcome assistance, but currently, she’s stable.”

The popular television show “Dancing With the Stars” has unveiled its lineup for season 33, including Anna Delvey, former contestant Joey Graziadei from “The Bachelor”, retired NFL player Danny Amendola, retired NBA star Dwight Howard, reality TV personality Phaedra Parks, actors Eric Roberts and Tori Spelling, and others
