‘Megalopolis’ Acquired by Studiocanal for European TV and SVOD Rights

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of film history, I am absolutely thrilled by this latest development! Studiocanal acquiring the European TV and SVOD rights to Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” is not just a step forward for contemporary cinema, but a testament to the enduring power of great storytelling.

Studiocanal acquired the television and streaming rights for seven years to Francis Ford Coppola’s film “Megalopolis” within a seven-year agreement.

The agreement does not involve Spain, Russia, or France, where the movie “Megalopolis,” distributed by Le Pacte on September 25, has only sold fewer than 250,000 cinema tickets to date.

Studiocanal’s extensive collection, recognized as one of the biggest in Europe, currently includes timeless masterpieces by Coppola like “Apocalypse Now,” “The Conversation,” “The Outsiders,” and “One From The Heart.

The Zoetrope and Studiocanal teams, under the guidance of Francis Ford Coppola’s company, have restored each title. “Apocalypse Now: The Final Cut” debuted at Tribeca in 2019 before its release, while “The Outsiders: The Complete Novel” premiered at San Sebastian and came out in 2021.

In 2023, ‘One From The Heart: Reprise’ had its premiere at Venice Classics, and it was later released in 2024. Similarly, ‘The Conversation’ premiered at Il Cinema Ritrovato in 2023, followed by a release in the same year of 2024.

Studycanal’s Juliette Hochart finalized the European television and streaming rights agreement for “Megalopolis” with George Hayum, who is a lawyer from the entertainment law firm Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman.

Studiocanal’s collection of movies encompasses over 9,000 titles hailing from approximately 60 different nations worldwide. Over the last five years, they have committed more than 20 million euros towards the renovation and preservation of around 700 classic films.
