Mega Man Is Still One Of Capcom’s “Most Important Franchises,” Company Says

The popular Mega Man series has seen little activity since its last installment, Mega Man 11, was released in 2018. Apart from brief appearances by the main character in Monster Hunter: World and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there haven’t been many signs of Mega Man since then. However, Capcom has hinted at a possible future for the franchise, emphasizing that it continues to hold significance within the company.

During a recent question and answer session (through Noisy Pixel), it was inquired about future plans for the Mega Man series by shareholders, to which a representative from Capcom responded, “The Mega Man franchise is one of our key intellectual properties, and we are consistently brainstorming methods to expand it. Unfortunately, we don’t have any new details to disclose at this moment.” The representative added that there has been an unusually high number of inquiries about Mega Man coming from international markets, but did not provide additional context.

The company’s recent statements echo the style of a Mega Man update from 2024, where Capcom expressed intentions to continually develop games for it. Although the original games within the series can easily be found online, no news about potential future sequels has been announced yet.

In 2018, plans for a real-life Mega Man film were being made by 20th Century Fox, with directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost assigned to lead the production. However, in 2021, a new live-action Mega Man project was launched at Netflix, but it’s uncertain if this replaced the previous one. So far, no substantial progress has been reported on this Netflix project.
