Tonight, we’re broadcasting from New York City as “Saturday Night Live” enters its 50th season! Joining the series for the first time are Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline, alongside veterans like Kenan Thompson, Chloe Fineman, Mikey Day, and Heidi Gardner.

Michael Che
Following a short stint as a correspondent on “The Daily Show,” Che transitioned to Saturday Night Live in 2014, taking over the Weekend Update desk alongside Colin Jost. He was promoted to the main cast two seasons later and, in 2017, he was appointed co-head writer of the sketch series. While Che isn’t often seen in sketches, he’s added a sharp edge to Weekend Update with their biannual tradition of exchanging jokes they’ve written for each other, famously quipping “It’s the nineties.
JOINED CAST: Season 40 | 2014
OTHER CREDITS: “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” “Top Five,” “Detroiters,” “The Other Two”
Mikey Day
As a Groundlings improv alumnus and “Wild ‘n Out” cast member, I was thrilled to land a writing position on Saturday Night Live in 2013, eventually becoming part of the main cast a few years down the line. My breakout moment came during my debut season, when I starred in the popular David S. Pumpkins sketch alongside host Tom Hanks, which quickly went viral. Some of my memorable on-air impressions include Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump Jr., and Prince Harry.
JOINED CAST: Season 42 | 2016
As a cinephile, I’d like to give a shout-out to some other projects that have caught my eye: “The Underground,” “Hubie Halloween,” the upcoming sequel to “Good Burger” titled simply “Good Burger 2,” “Unfrosted,” the intriguing “Is It Cake?,” and the ever-entertaining “Wild ‘n Out.” These titles are definitely worth checking out!
Andrew Dismukes
In 2017, Dismukes started working as a writer for “SNL”. A couple of years down the line, he was promoted to the cast. One of his most notable instances was when he humorously pointed out that in the movie Jumanji, it’s actually Jumanji that appears within the game.
JOINED CAST: Season 46 | 2020
OTHER CREDITS: “Call Me Brother,” “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy”
Chloe Fineman
Following performances at Upright Citizens Brigade and The Groundlings, along with well-liked celebrity mimicry on social platforms, Fineman made his debut on “SNL” in 2019, emerging as one of the show’s frequent impressionists. (Notable examples include Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, Jennifer Coolidge, Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa, and so forth.)
JOINED CAST: Season 45 | 2019
Additional Appreciation for: “Megalopolis”, “Dickinson”, “Freaky Friday Redux”, “Despicable Me 4”, “City of Babylon”, “Cinematic Bread”, “Missing Persons”
Here, I’ve tried to maintain the original intent while making it more readable and natural.
Heidi Gardner
Originally hailing from Kansas City and a diehard Chiefs fan, Gardner honed her comedic skills as a student at the Groundlings in Los Angeles, making her mark on the comedy world. After joining “SNL,” she has introduced an extensive array of characters, such as Every Boxer’s Girlfriend From Every Movie About Boxing Ever and A Co-Worker Who Appears to be Constantly Busy with Nothing in Particular.
JOINED CAST: Season 43 | 2017
OTHER CREDITS: “Life of the Party,” “Hustle,” “Shrinking”
Marcello Hernández
JOINED CAST: Season 48 | 2022
OTHER CREDITS: “Dying for Sex”
James Austin Johnson
He is the current U.S. President who is often referred to as White. After gaining widespread attention for his convincing stream-of-consciousness imitation of Donald Trump, “SNL” recruited Johnson and made him the lead impressionist for the 45th and now 47th President of the United States, replacing Alec Baldwin. However, it’s worth noting that he also does a great Bob Dylan impersonation.
JOINED CAST: Season 47 | 2021
OTHER CREDITS: “A Complete Unknown,” “She Said,” “Better Call Saul”
Colin Jost
Following his presidency at Harvard Lampoon, Jost began working as a staff writer for “SNL” in 2005 when he was just 23 years old. He was later promoted to co-head writer in 2012 and has since held this position twice within the show. In 2014, he took over from Seth Meyers as anchor on Weekend Update, and since then, he’s broken the record for being the longest-serving anchor of the show’s main segment.
JOINED CAST: Season 40 | 2014
OTHER CREDITS: “Tom & Jerry”
Michael Longfellow
With a dry sense of humor, Longfellow, who had previously tried stand-up comedy, found himself invited to join “SNL” at the age of 28, as shared with Phoenix.org. He described comedy as the sole profession that wasn’t both agonizingly difficult and terrifying to endure. One of his popular sketches, where he and host Nate Bargatze portrayed EMTs pondering whether to send a deceased body down a water slide, was inspired by his own experience working as a lifeguard.
JOINED CAST: Season 48 | 2022
OTHER CREDITS: “Good Burger 2”
Ego Nwodim
Hi there! This is Lisa from Temecula. Sasheer Nwodim began her comedy career at the Upright Citizens Brigade in LA, where she even tried out for a basketball team connected to the improv group. However, her tenure with that team was brief. She became a cast member on “SNL” in 2018.
JOINED CAST: Season 44 | 2018
ADDITIONAL THANKS:“Mr. Rewind,” “Crocodile Lyle,” “Give Me a Spin,” “The Collection of Shattered Hearts” (or simply “Shattered Hearts”)
Sarah Sherman
Sarah “Squirm” Sherman, famous for her sticky and slimy acts, warmed up for Eric Andre during his 2019 stand-up tour. Later in 2021, she joined the cast of “SNL”. Her unique brand of body horror comedy occasionally adds a touch of the grotesque to the show. She has particularly excelled in her Weekend Update segments, where she often portrays various characters, but always with the intention of teasing anchor Colin Jost.
JOINED CAST: Season 47 | 2021
OTHER CREDITS: “Rap World,” “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” “True Anon”
Kenan Thompson
Kenan Thompson is well-known for being the longest-serving cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” A feat that appears extremely difficult to surpass these days, you might wonder how he managed it.
JOINED CAST: Season 29 | 2003
OTHER CREDITS: “Good Burger,” “All That,” “They Came Together,” “Kenan”
Devon Walker
Following his stint as a stand-up comedian, Walker transitioned to working within the writing teams for “Big Mouth” and “Everything’s Trash”. Subsequently, he moved on to “SNL.” Notably, his impersonation of New York City mayor Eric Adams took on more relevance (and room for added humor) once the politician found himself in a heated controversy. Additionally, Walker has initiated a podcast titled “My Favorite Lyrics,” where he discusses his favorite humorous rap lyrics.
JOINED CAST: Season 48 | 2022
OTHER CREDITS: “Ayo and Rachel Are Single,” “My Favorite Lyrics”
Bowen Yang
A year before he was promoted to a cast member, Yang found himself in the writers’ room at “SNL.” Notably, he is the first Asian cast member of the series in its entire history. In 2021, this trailblazer became the inaugural featured player to receive an Emmy nomination, landing him a spot in the category for supporting actor in a comedy series. Since 2016, Yang has been a co-host on the “Las Culturistas” podcast alongside fellow comedian Matt Rogers.
JOINED CAST: Season 45 | 2019
FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: “Maleficent,” “The Wedding Feast,” “Sunset Island,” “Brothers of the Wind,” “Awkwafina: Nora’s Journey Home
Ashley Padilla
Prior to her stint at “SNL,” Padilla had been a part of the Groundlings troupe. Her portrayal of Joann (the JOANN Fabrics character) during Weekend Update brought attention to a particular stereotype of eccentric, upper-class white women.
JOINED CAST: Season 50 | 2024
OTHER CREDITS: “Shithouse,” “Summer Camp”
Emil Wakim
Wakim initially pursued stand-up comedy and later became part of “SNL” during its 50th season, making him the first Arab cast member in the show’s long history. On occasion, he has incorporated his unique point of view into some Weekend Update segments where he appears as himself.
JOINED CAST: Season 50 | 2024
OTHER CREDITS: “Black Market with Michael K. Williams”
Jane Wickline
Wickline became the initial “SNL” cast member to join TikTok. She gained popularity on this video-sharing app, both individually and as part of the digital comedy group “Stapleview.” On “SNL,” she’s most recognized for her musical appearances during Weekend Update.
