McDonald’s is trying out a new menu featuring chicken items, including a brand new product called McCrispy Tenders. Right now, you can only find them in Chicago.
McDonald’s is testing new menu items, building on its current McCrispy chicken sandwiches and adding sauced tenders to the mix. This test, happening in Chicago, offers a preview of potential changes McDonald’s is considering for its overall chicken options, though a nationwide rollout hasn’t been announced yet.
McCrispy Tenders appear different from existing strips
First impressions of the new McCrispy Tenders indicate they’re different from the existing McCrispy Strips. Food blogger Snackolator recently shared a close-up look, pointing out noticeable differences in how the tenders feel and the coating they have.
He explained that these tenders are hand-breaded, making them noticeably crispier and different from McDonald’s McCrispy Strips. He felt they were very similar to Popeyes tenders.

So, I saw some clips from testing in Chicago, and the new McCrispy Strips they’re working on look way different than what we’ve got now. The breading is noticeably thicker and it doesn’t look as smooth – it’s got a rougher, more textured look to it. It’s a pretty big change!
McDonald’s is currently testing McCrispy Tenders, along with new sauces and different options, to see what customers like. It’s unclear if these tenders, or any of the items being tested, will become available nationwide or stay in only a few locations.
McCrispy Strips first became available in May 2025 and quickly became a key part of the popular Snack Wrap launch the following month.
