McDonald’s Japan is teaming up with the popular video game Street Fighter, and fans are thrilled about the collaboration.
I’m always excited to see what McDonald’s does next! They’re famous for partnering with all sorts of celebs, brands, and even characters I love. Recently, they’ve been doing these awesome meal deals with rappers, built around their favorite orders. And the Happy Meals? Forget about it! They’re constantly adding cool toys based on cartoons and video games, which is a huge treat.
These partnerships differ depending on location, meaning some McDonald’s restaurants offer more exciting promotions than others. McDonald’s Japan is set to have a particularly great one this October.
Street Fighter comes to McDonald’s Japan this October
McDonald’s Japan recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they’ll be offering a special menu item inspired by the iconic Hadouken energy blast from the Street Fighter video game series.
McDonald’s Japan posted a shadowy image resembling Guile’s iconic crouching pose from the classic video game Street Fighter II, with the caption: “Waiting for something…”

Shortly after, the developers revealed a full lineup of characters from the game, shown in their victory poses, and announced a release date of October 16, 2025.
“Tomorrow’s announcement, they’re coming to meet,” the brand wrote.

The initial sneak peeks immediately caught the attention of fighting game fans, who were eager to learn more about the partnership. Many wondered if Japan’s McDonald’s restaurants might sell collectible toys, while others guessed that special Street Fighter-themed menu items could be introduced.
As a fan, I’ve noticed this collaboration really seems to be all about the classic *Street Fighter II*. The artwork they’re using isn’t from the newest game, *Street Fighter 6*, but directly references the style and look of the original 1992 version, which is super cool!
So, I’ve been seeing some buzz online – apparently, some people in Japan have spotted posters about a new collab! The posters say it’s dropping on Wednesday, October 22nd, which is awesome. But here’s the catch: it looks like you’ll only be able to get it at places that serve breakfast. That’s a little weird, but I’m definitely gonna check it out!
The posters reveal the collaboration will feature three special burgers inspired by the game. These include a burger with garlic mayo and a grilled egg, a fried chicken burger with sweet and sour mayo, and a classic triple cheeseburger.

So, we’re all just waiting to see what Capcom and McDonald’s are planning, right? But it’s kinda weird – this isn’t the first time these two have teamed up! I wonder what they’ve done together before?
In 2021, McDonald’s France featured the video game characters Ryu and Ken in their “Come As You Are” ad campaign. The ad showed the characters driving up to the drive-thru in a beat-up car, referencing a classic bonus stage from the game Street Fighter II.
McDonald’s Japan is famous for its creative partnerships with popular anime and video games. For example, in 2024, they collaborated with Neon Genesis Evangelion, releasing collectible figures that cleverly turned into food items.
