McDonald’s celebrates Miku Day with special Hatsune Miku meal & music video

McDonald’s Japan is marking Miku Day with a special meal inspired by the popular virtual singer, Hatsune Miku.

The fast food chain announced it will offer a limited-time “Hatsune Miku Set” in Japan starting March 9th, celebrating the popular Vocaloid character and an annual fan event dedicated to her.

Hatsune Miku is a virtual singer created by Crypton Future Media using Vocaloid technology. She’s famous for her distinctive teal pigtails and futuristic look, and has gained fans around the world. She even performs concerts as a hologram, often selling out venues.

McDonald’s Japan launches Hatsune Miku meal for Miku Day

Every year on March 9th, fans in Japan celebrate Miku Day. This date was chosen because the numbers 3 and 9 sound like “mi” and “ku” in Japanese – a playful connection to the virtual idol’s name. It’s also a popular day for fans to say “thank you” and show their appreciation for Miku.

The popular fast food chain recently launched a new music video on YouTube, showcasing the idol with different menu items.

McDonald’s Japan often releases special menus for a limited time, and they’ve created a Hatsune Miku Set to celebrate 2026. Instead of making completely new food, this promotion combines some of their existing, popular Japanese menu items.

This meal comes with a Teritama Burger, Shaka Shaka fries, and a drink. The Teritama Burger is a special spring item in Japan – it’s a pork burger with a sweet teriyaki glaze and a fried egg on top.

Shaka Shaka Potato lets customers season their fries by pouring flavor into the bag and shaking it up. Now, they’re partnering with Calbee, a Japanese snack company, to offer a new ‘Pizza Potato’ seasoning.

McDonald’s Japan announced that their current promotion only includes food and drinks. You won’t find any special toys, character items, or collectibles with the meal.

Past partnerships that involved collectible items, like those with Pokémon and Chiikawa, unfortunately drew in many resellers and led to a lot of food being thrown away.

The Hatsune Miku Set will be available from March 9 through March 19, 2026.

McDonald’s is consistently releasing limited-time offers globally, like collectible trading cards in the UK, unique hockey sticks in Canada, and basketball-themed Crocs in the US.
