The actor who will play Voldemort in HBO’s new Harry Potter series hasn’t been announced yet, despite lots of speculation. Paul Bettany recently confirmed he hasn’t been contacted about the role. He told Screen Rant that while he’s a fan of both the Harry Potter franchise and HBO, he hasn’t received any offers to join the project, even regarding rumors about the character’s lack of a nose.
Cillian Murphy recently confirmed he isn’t going to play Voldemort, following rumors about the role. Some are now suggesting Tilda Swinton might take on the part, potentially in a gender-swapped casting, as Ralph Fiennes originally played him. However, given J.K. Rowling’s controversial views, it’s unclear if she would approve of this change.
The rest of the cast is now largely complete. The main characters and their friends are being played by up-and-coming young actors. For the professors, John Lithgow will be Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu is taking on the role of Professor Snape, Janet McTeer will play Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost is Hagrid. We still don’t know who will play Nagini, though. Perhaps actors are hesitant to portray a villain from the series while also being associated with the controversial author, J.K. Rowling.
