Fans might be seeing a familiar face back on The Simpsons! Maya, Moe Syzlak’s fiancée, hasn’t been on the show much for the last four years, and she even disappeared from a recent episode on streaming. However, it looks like she’ll be appearing in a new episode very soon.

Since Maya started dating one of the most beloved characters on The Simpsons, she’s quickly become a fan favorite as well. She’s not only brought a lot of happiness to Moe, but she’s also proven to be a charming and enjoyable character in her own right.

As a big fan, I’ve been really worried about Maya Rudolph not being on the show lately, especially since she got engaged to Moe back in 2021. It was also a bit concerning when a quick glimpse of her seemed to be cut from the latest season. But thankfully, it sounds like she will be involved in the season they’re working on now, which is such a relief!

The Simpsons Mysteriously Removed Maya From Season 37

The original broadcast of the Simpsons episode “Men Behaving Manly” (first shown on Fox in October 2025) ended with a short, sweet moment: Moe and Maya shared a hug when they saw each other. However, Moe’s mother quickly interrupted, scolding her son. This scene isn’t included in the version currently available on Hulu and Disney+.

A recent edit to an episode of The Simpsons on streaming removed Maya’s return, cutting directly to the credits before her scene. This has led fans to believe her character has been removed from the show and that her relationship with Moe has ended.

It seems likely that a story bringing Moe and Maya back together has already been greenlit for season 38, shortly after the “Men Behaving Manly” episode aired. To make this reunion more impactful, Maya’s appearance in season 37 has been removed from the official storyline of The Simpsons.

Maya Is Likely To Return In The Upcoming Simpsons Episode “Dream Scenari-Moe”

In December 2025, Simpsons writer Broti Gupta revealed the cover page of a script she wrote for an episode titled “Dream Scenari-Moe.” The episode was being reviewed at a table read, and episodes usually take six to eight months to finish after that review. This means it’s likely to air during the show’s 38th season.

The title clearly indicates Moe will be the main focus, and the clever wordplay suggests something good is about to happen for him. The most positive development for Moe in the recent seasons of The Simpsons has been his relationship with Maya.

It’s likely his ideal outcome is for her to reappear in the next episode. Moe seems to be feeling very lonely in season 36 of The Simpsons, and only she could help him with that. Considering season 38 is set to start in September 2026, this could happen surprisingly soon – possibly within the next six months.

Another Maya Episode Was Previously Announced In 2024

Before rumors started about Moe and Maya splitting up in season 36 of The Simpsons, longtime writer and showrunner Al Jean revealed a planned episode that specifically references Maya in its title. He shared a photo of the episode’s script draft on X (formerly Twitter) back in May 2024.

So, whatever happened to that “Marge and Homer and Moe and Maya” idea? It seems to have quietly disappeared. We didn’t see a script with Maya as a major character pop up in season 37, which is a pretty good sign it’s been put on hold. But it’s also possible that Al Jean’s initial draft didn’t get scrapped entirely. Maybe it morphed into the script Broti Gupta teased back in December 2025, or perhaps it’s become part of something else entirely for season 38. It’s a bit of a mystery!

It’s almost certain Maya will return to The Simpsons. Recent social media activity from producers Gupta and Jean suggests we’ll likely see her again within the next year.
