Maya Higa’s Alveus Sanctuary successfully raised $1 million to launch the Alveus Research & Recovery Institute, a new initiative dedicated to protecting wildlife and helping endangered species bounce back.
So, I was watching Maya stream, and she was doing this really cool fundraiser called the Pixel Project. Basically, you donated a hundred bucks, and it unlocked one tiny pixel on this digital mural she was showing. It was awesome watching the image slowly come together! After three days, everyone had donated enough to unlock all 10,000 pixels, which completely finished the mural and raised a million dollars! It was seriously amazing to be a part of.
Alveus announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they successfully raised $1,000,000 in just three days for their research and recovery institute, calling it a remarkable achievement.
We’ve reached our goal for The Pixel Project! In just three days, we raised $1,000,000 to fund our research and recovery institute. We’re truly amazed and grateful for the incredible support.

The money will be used to create the Alveus Research & Recovery Institute, dedicated to breeding programs that help save critically endangered Red wolves and Mexican Gray wolves.
The organization announced they are applying the Alveus method to conservation efforts and, thanks to generous support, have secured $1,000,000 to launch the Alveus Research & Recovery Institute.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, every one of the 10,000 pixels in our mural has been claimed and now displays the name of a key early supporter of the Institute. While the mural is complete, we still need your help to continue developing and running the Institute’s programs.
According to Alveus, there are only 18 Red wolves and 286 Mexican Gray wolves left in the wild. The organization works to maintain healthy populations of these wolves in zoos and other facilities, with the eventual goal of returning them to their native environments.
