Matt Damon’s “Criminally Underrated” Sci-Fi Action Blockbuster Lands New Streaming Home

However, viewers weren’t as impressed with the sci-fi action film starring Damon, giving it a lower 58% audience rating. Despite these mixed reactions, the movie was a financial success, earning more than twice its production budget. Made for approximately $115 million, it brought in just over $286 million globally, making it a solid hit. A little over a year later, Damon appeared in what many consider to be his best sci-fi film yet, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.

Director Blomkamp has established himself as a top talent in science fiction, with films like District 9 and Chappie – and several other great, but often overlooked, movies. Elysium boasts stunning visual effects – the kind that deserve an Oscar – and the intense, action-packed sequences that made District 9 so popular.

This film is definitely among Matt Damon’s most action-filled performances (though that might change when Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season finally comes out). Damon got incredibly fit for the role, and his physical transformation was heavily featured in the film’s promotion. It’s true the movie isn’t perfect – both viewers and critics have noted its weaknesses. However, despite these flaws, Elysium remains a solid sci-fi action film. While it may not deliver the profound social commentary it aims for, the exciting action sequences and detailed world-building still make it a fun watch.
