A man who says he’s the great-great-great-nephew of Colonel Sanders has shared what he claims is KFC’s secret fried chicken recipe. The list of 11 herbs and spices became public after KFC blocked him on social media.
As a huge fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the story of Kentucky Fried Chicken! It all started way back in the 1930s with Colonel Sanders opening a little place in Kentucky. But it wasn’t really KFC yet! The first official KFC didn’t appear until 1952, and even then, the recipe for that amazing fried chicken was kept pretty secret – a total mystery!
The famously secret blend of 11 herbs and spices has captivated customers worldwide for decades. Though there have been supposed ‘leaks’ claiming to reveal each ingredient, the official recipe remains unconfirmed.
Recently, someone claiming to be a great-nephew of the company’s founder says he’s shared the official recipe – the list of herbs and spices – that he learned through family stories. Whether this information is accurate remains to be seen.
Alleged Colonel Sanders relative ‘leaks’ KFC secret recipe
On social media, this person is known only as ‘The Colonel’. They dress like someone who might be related to the original founder, and claim to be their great-great-great-nephew. Their stated goal is to “defend the legacy through history and facts.”
So, I’ve been calling out KFC for using my heritage in some pretty messed up, sexualized ads lately. It’s been frustrating, honestly. And now? They’ve just straight-up blocked me on all their official TikTok accounts. I’ve got over 400,000 followers and I’m speaking out, and their response is to silence me? It’s a bit much, if you ask me.
In retaliation, they ‘leaked’ the family’s biggest secret, the original KFC recipe.
“Are you curious about how to recreate their chicken recipe?” he asked in a TikTok video. “I’ve created this recipe based on actual facts to show you how to make their chicken genuinely.”
A person claiming to be related to the original recipe creator says KFC’s well-known blend of 11 herbs and spices consists of the following ingredients:
- Sage
- Cloves
- Nutmeg
- Cinnamon
- Red pepper / Cayenne pepper
- Coriander
- Ginger
- Garlic powder
- White pepper
- Black pepper
- Cardamon
The story behind this recipe is that it’s been passed down through the family, but take that with a grain of salt. We can’t be certain it’s authentic, and it doesn’t match a version discovered in a family member’s will back in 2016.
Despite everything, the video claiming to reveal the KFC recipe has become incredibly popular, gaining more than eight million views on TikTok and inspiring many similar videos in response.
