
Dark Horse Comics is about to explore the origins of the — And their worst enemies.
Dark Horse Comics announced a new comic book series, Masters of the Universe: Genesis, which will explore the backstories of the heroes and villains from Eternia. Starting in August, the series will begin with the origin story of one of the franchise’s most famous villains.
The first story arc in Masters of the Universe: Genesis, spanning three issues, will reveal how Skeletor became Eternia’s most dangerous enemy. Written by Rich Douek, with art by Gavin Smith, colors by Fabi Marques, and lettering by AndWorld Design, the arc’s first issue features a main cover by Mark Buckingham and a variant cover by Lee Bermejo. Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1


The first issue of Dark Horse Comics’ Masters of the Universe: Genesis reveals the backstories of iconic heroes and villains. It begins with Skeletor, a ruthless sorcerer obsessed with taking over Castle Grayskull, ruling Eternia, and becoming the most powerful being in the universe!
Okay, so after the first three issues focusing on Skeletor in Masters of the Universe: Genesis, I’m not totally sure what’s coming next, but Dark Horse has said they’ve got some awesome creators lined up to write future stories. They’ve teased that Cavan Scott, Nick Roche, John Harris Dunning, Giovanna La Pietra, and Tiffany Smith will all be taking a crack at writing some issues, which is pretty exciting!
Masters of the Universe Is Set To Be A Summer Blockbuster
Besides the many comic books, fans of Masters of the Universe are excited about the new live-action movie, which tells the story of Prince Adam, who is also He-Man.
The new Masters of the Universe movie features a talented cast including Idris Elba as Duncan (Man-At-Arms), Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Alison Brie as Professor Evelyn Powers, who also goes by Evil-Lyn. Fans got a good preview of these characters in March with .
Following the movie’s release, fans can continue the adventure with the first comic book tie-in, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate #1. Written by Tim Sheridan, with art by Will Sliney and colors by Israel Silva, the comic will feature He-Man on a dangerous quest through the Mystic Mountains, seeking help from the legendary people of Avion.
Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1 from Dark Horse Comics goes on sale August 5.
