Casey Hudson’s recently established studio, Humanoid Origin, which has worked on the popular Mass Effect series, is shutting down. They made this announcement on LinkedIn, stating that they are closing their operations due to an unforeseen lack of financial resources.

The studio expresses deep sadness that it can’t release its upcoming sci-fi game as planned, but prioritizes helping its team members secure new employment. In the time we spent together, the team made significant strides and proved that exceptional work can be done in an environment that encourages fun and creativity. In 2021, Humanoid Origin unveiled their project which is a highly anticipated sci-fi game, uniquely categorized as an exceptional AAA intellectual property that stands out from the rest. This studio, located in Canada, operates not only from its offices in Edmonton, Alberta, and Kelowna but also collaborates with remote team members.

For 16 years, from 1998 to 2014, Hudson was employed at BioWare, gaining significant recognition for his contributions to the Mass Effect series. In 2015, he shifted to Xbox and focused on their mixed-reality gadgets. After a brief return to BioWare as its general manager in 2017, he departed again in 2020. Subsequently, Hudson founded Humanoid in the year 2021. The future holds uncharted possibilities for his endeavors.

Regarding BioWare, they recently unveiled Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October. At present, the team is not working on downloadable content or expansions; instead, their focus has been shifted towards the next installment of Mass Effect, a project spearheaded by veterans from the franchise (excluding Hudson).
