Renowned Japanese animator Masaaki Yuasa has unveiled plans for his own animation studio, named ame pippin. Collaborating with major players in the industry such as Asmik Ace, Inc., Aniplex Inc., and CoMix Wave Films Inc., this new venture by Yuasa aims to offer unique and cutting-edge content within the realm of animation.
For years, I’ve admired Masaaki Yuasa for his extraordinary and inventive narratives that have made a significant impact on the animation industry. In 2013, I teamed up with producer Eunyoung Choi to establish Science Saru, a Japanese studio that has since become renowned. Our collective efforts led to the production of my 2023 Golden Globe-nominated feature “Inu-Oh,” as well as Netflix’s “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” and various episodes for “Adventure Time” and “Star Wars: Visions.
In the realm of animation, Yuasa’s most esteemed creations often include the 2004 masterpiece “Mind Game,” widely recognized as one of the century’s seminal Japanese productions. His more recent endeavors, like “Lu Over The Wall” and “Ride Your Wave,” have continued to earn international recognition and a host of accolades, such as an Annecy Cristal award for best feature (for “Lu Over The Wall”) and a Fantasia prize for the best animated feature (“Ride Your Wave”).
Yuasa made an announcement that a fresh studio is being formed through partnerships with Asmik Ace, Aniplex, and CoMix Wave Films.
