Marvin Levy, a long-term advisor and publicist for renowned director Steven Spielberg, passed away on April 7th. He was 96 years old. (Informal: The man who advised and promoted movies for Steven Spielberg for many years, Marvin Levy, died on the 7th of April at the age of 96.)
Marvin’s departure is deeply felt, not just by me but also across our entire industry. While there are numerous skilled PR professionals, Marvin stood out uniquely. In a statement, Spielberg expressed this, stating that for over five decades, he was an exceptional and dedicated collaborator, admired and respected by everyone fortunate enough to learn from his wisdom. When it came to managing the media, there was no one who could rival him. To the press and the world of exhibitions, Marvin embodied Amblin. Our roles in movie-making were polar opposites: as I finished production on a film, Marvin’s work was just getting started. Over numerous films, TV series, Amblin events, awards campaigns, and our PR strategy, Marvin truly shone. He adored his job and always showed great enthusiasm for our industry. Known for his creativity, innovation, and integrity, he was eager to discover new and improved ways to present films to audiences. This passion led him to become the first and only publicist to receive an Academy Award.
