As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity about the latest developments in Marvel’s Wolverine project by Insomniac Games. The news of personnel changes at the studio has been buzzing around, and it seems that the Creative Director, Brian Horton, has moved on to greener pastures – or should I say, a more ‘perfect’ dark.

There hasn’t been much news about Insomniac Games’ progress on Marvel’s Wolverine since it was announced in 2021. We did catch a glimpse with an early development trailer featuring Wolverine, but apart from that, there haven’t been any updates or sneak peeks until the Insomniac leaks of 2023.

Despite the seriousness of the leaks, recent reports hint at some activity happening behind the scenes at Insomniac Games. It seems that there might have been staff changes within the studio, with a new Creative Director being brought on to supervise and assess the game design since the project is still under development as we speak.

In a recent Game File report dated October 31st, 2024 by Stephen Totilo, it was disclosed that two reliable sources confirmed a change in leadership for Marvel’s Wolverine project. Brian Horton, who previously held the position of Creative Director for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (released in 2020), has departed from his role on Marvel’s Wolverine, having left since the summer.

According to Totilo’s report, Horton secured a prominent role as the Creative Director for the upcoming Xbox title, Perfect Dark, which is being developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. Even though Horton will be working with these teams on Perfect Dark, the Creative Director position at Insomniac has already been filled. Marcus Smith was appointed to that position, while Mike Daly was disclosed as the game director.

Daly assumed the position of game director from Cameron Christian, who was earlier announced for the role. However, as per Totilo’s report, Christian continues to work at Insomniac in a different capacity. These latest personnel shifts within Insomniac’s Wolverine development team, according to Totilo, have impacted the creative direction of the game. Regarding this, a representative from Sony Interactive Entertainment has chosen not to provide comments.
