Confirmed for Marvel Studios‘ reboot of Marvel projects initially aired on Netflix in 2026 are two projects that will feature anti-heroes, as one character has been added to the franchise. Previously, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk moved from Netflix’s Marvel series into the MCU. The revival of Daredevil, titled “Born Again,” already brought back additional characters, and will include even more Netflix characters when Season 2 premieres in 2026.
Disney officially announced that Krysten Ritter will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2, taking on her role of Jessica Jones from the Netflix Marvel series. Unlike before, Jessica won’t be appearing as a traditional superhero but instead as an anti-hero, making her the second significant anti-hero in the MCU’s Netflix revamp.
As per Charlie Cox’s statements, the Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptation of Jessica Jones is expected to be quite blunt and may humorize situations that are excessively serious. Furthermore, he hinted that her character might lean towards being an anti-hero rather than a traditional hero.
Jessica and Matt have an entertaining relationship, characterized by mutual respect. Jessica perceives Matt as overly serious and somewhat like a choir boy, while he sees her as brash and tending to make light of serious situations excessively. It’s likely that she leans more towards the ‘anti-hero’ side than the hero.
In the upcoming projects like “Daredevil: Born Again” on Disney+ and “The Punisher’s Special Presentation,” there will be two powerful anti-hero characters, Jessica Jones and The Punisher.
Initially, Ritter made her debut as Jessica Jones in a self-canceled Netflix series, which shared her name and was one of the Marvel shows to be axed from the streaming service after completing three seasons.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is at present being filmed and is slated for a release in March 2026. This forthcoming chapter will include The Punisher, marking the initial Marvel Studios production to encompass both anti-heroes stemming from the Netflix series.
Every Other Anti-Hero Appearing in Upcoming MCU Projects
Namor
Tenoch Huerta made his first appearance as Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. His inclusion in “Avengers: Doomsday” was hinted during Marvel Studios’ grand cast reveal event in late March, when his name was found on one of the chairs, implying that he will be part of the upcoming ensemble film.
In the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, Namor was portrayed as the primary adversary, yet his character seems to straddle the line between an anti-hero and neither a traditional hero nor a full-fledged villain.
Loki
Initially, Loki was clearly portrayed as a villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But as time progressed, his character underwent a transformation that could be considered a redemption arc. By the end of Loki Season 2, he solidified his position as the MCU’s most prominent and powerful anti-hero.
It’s been officially announced that Loki will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday“, and it’s already been hinted that he plays a significant part in the movie’s plot.
M’Baku
In essence, M’Baku, portrayed by Winston Duke, shares some parallels with Namor, as M’Baku initially appeared as a potential adversary but evolved into an anti-hero. In the debut Black Panther movie, M’Baku contested T’Challa for the rule of Wakanda, yet in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, he switched sides, bravely leading the Jabari against Thanos.
In the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project, M’Baku has been verified to make a comeback, much like Loki and Namor, which indicates that they will all be playing complex roles, leaning towards the antagonist side of the storyline.
