I was really excited when I heard rumors that Avengers: Doomsday might bring a major supernatural hero into the mix, but it looks like Marvel is holding off on those plans for now. It’s a bit confusing because we did see Ghost Rider – or, at least, Robbie Reyes as the Spirit of Vengeance – in Agents of SHIELD, but it’s still not totally clear if that storyline officially counts as part of the main MCU. What is clear is that Marvel started laying the groundwork with Ironheart on Disney+ last year by bringing in Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto, who’s the one who originally cursed the Spirit of Vengeance, so hopefully we’ll see more of that side of things eventually!
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman on X, Ghost Rider won’t be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, even though Marvel was previously searching for an actor to play the role. Richtman believes Marvel Studios decided against introducing the character in this film.
Richtman has mentioned that the Spirit of Vengeance will make a brief appearance in Doomsday, acting as an introduction to the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s expected to have a more significant role in future films, including a team-up movie focusing on supernatural heroes.
According to a source, Marvel is planning to build a team called the Midnight Sons in a future movie, with Ghost Rider as the leader. The film is expected to also include Moon Knight, played by Oscar Isaac, and Blade, played by Mahershala Ali.
Why Ghost Rider Could Appear in Avengers: Secret Wars (With an A-List Actor)

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Ryan Gosling was strongly considered for the role of Ghost Rider. Although he was committed to Star Wars: Starfighter, there was talk that if his schedule allowed, he could potentially appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Even though Daniel Richtman now says Ghost Rider won’t appear in this year’s Avengers movie, he previously reported that Marvel Studios had already cast an actor for the role, but he couldn’t reveal who it was.
If Marvel really wanted Ryan Gosling to play Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they might have planned his first appearance for a later project, like Avengers: Secret Wars or even sometime in Phase 7, to work around his commitments to Star Wars and his other busy projects.
It’s clear Ryan Gosling would be a fantastic addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially considering the potential for a team like the Midnight Sons. After the disappointing box office performance of Thunderbolts, Marvel is likely hesitant to make another lesser-known team movie. They probably hope established stars like Gosling, Oscar Isaac, and Mahershala Ali can help guarantee a hit.
