Marvel Shocked Fans When Vision Lifted Thor’s Hammer—Why They’ve Never Done It Again!

10 years since the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, I’m still amazed that Marvel hasn’t recreated its most impressive scene. Despite being criticized as the weakest Avengers movie, it remains a strong film with many standout moments. The battle between Hulkbuster and Hulk is one of the finest fights in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the film also introduces some unforgettable characters like Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Quicksilver. Moreover, the final showdown in Sokovia serves as a significant milestone for the MCU, laying the groundwork for Captain America: Civil War.

A memorable instance is when the Avengers assemble for a party and try to lift Thor’s hammer. Even though its lifting conditions were previously known, this scene reinforced the idea that only those worthy of ruling Asgard could do so. Despite no one managing to lift it, Captain America subtly nudges it, creating the sensational scene in Avengers: Endgame where he wields Mjölnir. Interestingly, this scene also lays the groundwork for an astonishing event in Age of Ultron that I find hard to believe Marvel didn’t revisit post-film.

Vision Became The First Non-Asgardian To Lift Thor’s Hammer In Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Vision Shocked The Avengers And Audiences

In Vision’s birth sequence, the Avengers found themselves uncertain if the new android was friend or adversary. Though he bore elements of Tony Stark’s J.A.R.V.I.S., his purpose was to embody Ultron perfectly. However, it became evident that he had noble intentions when Vision lifted Mjolnir and offered it to Thor. The Avengers were left speechless, too amazed to respond immediately to the surprising event. I still recall the cinema experience vividly; it was as if everyone held their breath, as the audience mirrored the shock of the other Marvel characters.

This scene effectively showcases Vision’s immense strength. Despite being newly created just five minutes ago, he was immediately trusted with wielding Thor’s hammer. In the climactic fight against Ultron, he even managed to use the hammer, catching Ultron off guard in a surprise attack while battling Thor. Though Thor might have some reservations about others using his weapon, it was a significant boost for the Avengers to have such a powerful ally. Regrettably, they failed to utilize this power advantageously after this movie.

Vision Never Lifted Mjolnir Again

Marvel Never Repeated This Amazing Moment

After the events of “Age of Ultron,” Vision and Thor seldom interacted, with Thor absent from “Civil War” and Vision missing from “Endgame.” Although Vision managed to lift Mjölnir in “Endgame,” he didn’t get another opportunity to do so since the hammer had been destroyed by Hela in “Thor: Ragnarok.” Additionally, neither Vision nor White Vision had the chance to pick it up during their brief encounter in “Avengers: Infinity War” and as Thor wasn’t present in “WandaVision,” there was no opportunity for either of them to attempt lifting Mjölnir again.

In the grand tapestry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the moment when Vision lifted Thor’s hammer wasn’t central to the overall narrative, but oh boy, was it a breathtaking scene that left an indelible mark! It seemed almost unnecessary for Marvel to revisit this scenario and have Vision wield Mjolnir again, but I must admit, it’s intriguing to ponder what could have been.

Even after the hammer was shattered, there were opportunities for Vision to utilize Stormbreaker in his battles against Thanos or any of the Black Order. Alas, it’s a tad unfortunate that we didn’t see him wield any of Thor’s weapons beyond Age of Ultron. However, as a dedicated fan, I can’t help but hold out hope for a potential reprisal in the future.

Vision’s TV Show Needs To Emphasize How Powerful The Hero Is

Paul Bettany Is Returning To The MCU In An Upcoming TV Series

In the show “WandaVision”, a new character named White Vision emerged, having been created after the demise of original Vision. This character is currently traveling through the cosmos, seeking his role. He’s set to reappear in a future Vision series scheduled for 2026. Marvel can capitalize on this opportunity to highlight just how potent White Vision is, given that his recent portrayals have made him seem more susceptible. In “Civil War”, one of his weaknesses was evident when Scarlet Witch manipulated the Mind Stone to incapacitate him, demonstrating a strong link between Vision and the Mind Stone. Removing the stone left him powerless.

In “Infinity War,” Vision was largely marginalized following his stabbing at the outset, spending much of the movie recuperating before ultimately meeting his demise at Thanos’ hands. He resurfaced in “WandaVision” but lacked full strength due to being essentially a figment rather than a genuine entity. Within the Westview dome, he could engage with objects, but Wanda had the ability to eliminate him whenever she wished. The introduction of White Vision in 2026 may restore his original powers, making him an essential asset for “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027. Additionally, this scenario offers a chance for him to interact with Thor again since “Avengers: Age of Ultron.
