A fresh speculation has arisen suggesting that Pedro Pascal’s portrayal of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic may not hold the leadership position within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Avengers team during the upcoming films, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Contradicting this, director Matt Shakman hinted that Reed will take charge of the Avengers in those movies.
Marvel rumor suggests Reed Richards won’t lead the Avengers in Doomsday
According to a post on X (previously known as Twitter) by the industry insider @MyTimeToShineH, it has been suggested that contrary to earlier reports, Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson / Captain America will lead the Avengers in the upcoming team-up films, rather than Reed.
@MyTimeToShineH” shared that he double-checked with his source, and they confirmed that Reed Richards is not commanding the Avengers in “Doomsday” or “Secret Wars”. Instead, it’s Sam and Yelena who are taking charge of the team(s).
In a recent interview, Shakman stated something that appears to be contrary to this: The character Reed, as portrayed, transitions from a solitary scientist in the lab, to a devoted husband and father ready to safeguard his family, to the leader of the Avengers, according to the filmmaker.
At the moment, the views expressed by @MyTimeToShineH on this topic are best considered as hypotheses or guesses.
Based on the careful way Marvel has introduced Sam and Yelena as heads of their own Avenger teams in “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts,” it’s likely we’ll see these narratives carry on for a while, given the studio’s intentions.
If they relinquish their leadership positions right after the Fantastic Four‘s debut on Earth-616, there’s a chance that the story arcs of these two characters throughout various Marvel Cinematic Universe stories might lose significance or impact.
Reed will join his team in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” set to release in US theaters on July 25, 2025. On the other hand, “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for premiere on December 18, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” follows suit on December 17, 2027.
