Marvel Rivals dev has created a custom 3v3 map for Deadlock

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that Deadlock has managed to captivate me like few games have before. Being a level designer myself, I can truly appreciate the effort and dedication the team behind this gem has put into it.

Even though it’s currently in the closed alpha stage, Deadlock consistently boasts a player count on Steam in six figures at any given time, including notable early adopter and Marvel Rivals developer, Cliff Shuldt.

In a recent social media post on X/Twitter, the level designer for NetEase’s upcoming hero shooter, Shuldt, shared: “With all the fun I’ve been having with Deadlock, I decided to create a 3v3 map layout during my free time. The team behind Deadlock has really created something extraordinary.

On the specific Steam Community page for Intersection, Shuldt elaborated on their objectives for the custom map. In essence, they aim to bring two lanes close together so players can assist in early team fights. Following this initial phase, players must decide which lane to focus on or split their team to cover both paths.

Because I’ve been loving #Deadlock immensely, I chose to create a 3v3 design during my leisure hours. I initiated this layout approximately a week back. Had the pleasure of playing it for the first time tonight! Kudos to @valvesoftware for crafting something exceptionally unique in Deadlock.

In the game, deadlock players can utilize a single main map. Unlike the Intersection with its two lanes, The Cursed Apple is divided into four distinct paths. This division naturally separates each team of six into pairs and individual players in the lanes. However, players retain the freedom to adjust their positions as they deem necessary.

If implemented formally, this new format could cause significant changes within Deadlock’s game mechanics. Although Valve might offer additional map options in upcoming updates, they have not disclosed their plans regarding this aspect as of now.

Based on responses in Deadlock’s subreddit, it seems that players are showing a strong interest in diverse gameplay options. Many have drawn comparisons between Intersection and the League of Legends’ former Twisted Treeline map, which had a similar structure.

Although Valve hasn’t specified a release date from the closed alpha of Deadlock yet, they are consistently providing regular updates. Recently, a September 26 update introduced a new character, Mirage, and implemented anti-cheat measures that penalize offenders by transforming them into frogs, you heard it right!
