Marvel Is Still ‘Committed to Blade,’ Kevin Feige Says After Movie Pulled From Release Calendar: ‘The Character Will Indeed Make It to the MCU’

As a long-time fan of Marvel and Blade, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and patience regarding the upcoming “Blade” movie starring Mahershala Ali. The journey of this project has been quite tumultuous, with several changes in writers and directors over the years. However, Kevin Feige‘s reassurance that Blade will indeed grace the MCU is music to my ears.

Marvel Studios has temporarily removed Mahershala Ali’s “Blade” film from their release schedule, but don’t fret, as studio head Kevin Feige assures fans that the legendary vampire hunter will indeed join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His arrival is imminent, according to his word.

At the D23 Brazil 2024 event, Feige shared that Blade is a priority for us. We admire the character and Mahershala’s portrayal of him. Furthermore, we always keep our audience informed about any changes or scheduling adjustments regarding our projects. For now, everything you know about Blade in the MCU remains accurate. However, I can assure you that Blade will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel initially declared their “Blade” film featuring Ali back in July 2019, but the production process has faced challenges due to numerous changes in screenwriters and directors over time. During his summer press tour for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Feige mentioned that taking care not to rush the “Blade” movie is of utmost importance for the studio.

For the past two years while working on that movie, our top priority has been taking our time and ensuring we produce the right ‘Blade’ film rather than rushing it.” (Feige stated this previously)

Bassam Tariq was initially chosen as the director for Marvel’s “Blade” movie, but he left the project in September 2022, just about two months before it was due to start production. Over time, various screenwriters have been named for the film, including Stacy Osei-Kuffour from “Watchmen” and Michael Starrbury. More recently, Yann Demange, who directed “Lovecraft Country,” also departed from the project in June.

Last November, EbMaster shared news about “Blade” having been handled by at least five screenwriters already. A source close to the script revisions revealed that initially, the tale transformed into one centered around women and brimming with moral teachings. Back then, it was rumored that Marvel Studios were considering producing the film, but on a production budget under $100 million.

The latest release date for “The Blade” movie was set for November 7, 2025, but Disney has decided to replace it with “Predator: Badlands” on that same date. At this point, Marvel hasn’t confirmed if one of their three upcoming projects scheduled for February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, or November 10, 2028 is for “Blade.

The character Blade made its debut on the silver screen in 1998, starring Wesley Snipes, and has since appeared in subsequent films such as “Blade II” (2002) directed by Guillermo Del Toro, and “Blade: Trinity” (2004). Notably, Snipes reappeared as Blade in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” a blockbuster movie that has amassed $1.3 billion worldwide. In this film, Blade humorously asserts to Deadpool, “There’s only been one Blade; there will always be just one Blade.
