As a dedicated Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to be part of the excitement surrounding the latest addition to the MCU’s streaming shows – Ironheart. This captivating series made its debut on Disney+ earlier this week, and it’s already generating buzz among us fans on Rotten Tomatoes. However, before its official release, the show faced a deluge of reviews that some might call “review bombing.” Here’s what happened:
How Ironheart Got Review Bombed In Time For Its Premiere
As a devoted fan, it’s disheartening to notice a recurring pattern with Marvel and Disney projects headlined by a woman of color. This was evident with Captain Marvel in 2019, and now, regrettably, The Little Mermaid live-action adaptation seems to be following suit, prompting IMDb to respond. Similarly, the anticipated Ironheart series, released just hours ago, has started off with a Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter rating of 32%. It’s unfortunate that such negative audience sentiment emerges before the public has had a chance to fully engage and share their opinions on these promising productions.
The TV show began on IMDb with a rather dismal rating of 4.7 out of 10, despite not being streamable yet. Since then, the situation seems to have worsened significantly, as the series now holds a 3.7 and has garnered 15,000 ratings. Notably, more than half of the IMDb users rated the show a mere 1 out of 10, suggesting that many are simply logging on to give it the lowest possible score.
On Disney+, you can now stream the first three episodes of Ironheart, with the rest arriving this coming Tuesday, July 1st. The cost for a monthly subscription to Disney+ starts at just $9.99, offering an ad-supported plan. For an ad-free experience, you can upgrade to $15.99 per month or save 16% by pre-paying $159.99 for a year’s worth of service. Take advantage of this deal now!
It Looks Like Marvel Fans Are Helping Give Ironheart More Love
Three days after its release on Rotten Tomatoes, it appears the narrative has shifted for Ironheart, as it now boasts a more realistic 60% Popcornmeter rating. This suggests that Marvel fans are standing up against review bombing and are instead giving the latest MCU series a fair amount of praise rather than outright criticism.
While many viewers who’ve watched the series haven’t universally acclaimed it. Instead, the series has garnered a mixed response from critics, earning a 72% score. Critics have described it as “disorganized” and “needing more depth,” but others have hailed it as one of their favorite Marvel shows. Notably, the audience score for the series has increased by 30%, indicating that fans are invested enough to prevent the show from being considered a flop in the Marvel universe.
The show focuses on Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams, who debuted in Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Robert Downey Jr. has expressed his backing for “Ironheart,” and so far, connections to the Iron Man trilogy have been unveiled within the aired episodes. Currently, you can stream the first three episodes on Disney+, with the remaining three set to premiere this coming Tuesday, July 1st.
