Disney and Marvel Studios have postponed the release of their upcoming Phase 7 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which were originally scheduled to start with a currently unnamed film set for November 5, 2027, following the premiere of Avengers: Secret Wars in May of that year. However, it appears that both Secret Wars and its predecessor, Avengers: Doomsday, have been delayed as filming commences. It remains uncertain whether any new films will be added to Phase 7, but there are rumors about potential releases of Black Panther 3, Shang-Chi 2, Doctor Strange 3, a new movie titled Blade, and a reboot of the X-Men franchise.
Besides postponing “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars”, Marvel Studios also cancelled three unnamed MCU film release dates, consequently moving back Phase 7. This regrettably means that several highly-anticipated Marvel Studios films, such as the reboot of X-Men, are now even more distant in the future.
Marvel Studios has decided not to proceed with the production of several unnamed movies initially scheduled for release on February 13, 2026 and November 6, 2026, and an additional one slated for November 5, 2027 (which would have marked the start of Phase 7 following Secret Wars). Instead, they are keeping a secretive July 23, 2027 release date.
The news arrives that Marvel Studios postponed the next two Avengers films, reducing Phase 6 to just five upcoming movies. Kicking off on July 25 is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day in 2026 on July 31 and Doomsday on December 18. A yet-to-be-revealed film will be shown on July 23, 2027, before the Phase concludes with Secret Wars on December 17.
Marvel Studios has set the launch dates for Phase 7 in 2028, with the new and rescheduled beginning on February 18, followed by releases on May 5 and November 10 as well.
MCU Phase 7: The 3 Movies That Will Likely Start the Next Saga
After leaving the group of “Sinners” behind, director Ryan Coogler is now gearing up to start work on a virtually guaranteed addition to Phase 7: “Black Panther 3”. Initially slated for a February 2028 release, there have been whispers that this date might change due to delays. However, if the development process progresses as expected, Marvel Studios may still hold firm to this planned release.
The X-Men reboot within the MCU seems to be edging closer to reality following the appointment of a director, as suggested by recent Marvel Studios developments. Previously speculated to debut in November 2027, it now appears that the film may instead premiere in May 2028, occupying a coveted position during the peak summer movie season.
It appears that if gossip and speculation are accurate, the next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), starting with Phase 7, might unfold as the Mutant Saga. With Marvel Studios now gathering its cast for the X-Men reboot, it seems possible they could debut their fresh talent on the most significant day of releases in the MCU, given the likelihood that this film is destined to be a blockbuster hit.
As for the movies that could complete Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in November 2028, several titles are anticipated to follow the release of “Secret Wars”. Among the potential frontrunners are “Blade” and “Shang-Chi 2”, but it’s hard to predict what else Marvel Studios might be preparing secretly.
