For quite some time now, Galactus has been a thrilling figure in the Marvel Universe, and soon he will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of “The Fantastic Force: First Steps.” However, Galactus remains a subject of discussion due to his unique powers that straddle the boundaries between cosmic entities and those yet to reach Celestial territories.
It seems that Marvel finally has an answer about whether Galactus is a Celestial or not.
Is Galactus a celestial in Marvel comics?
Putting it simply: Galactus isn’t currently a Celestial in Marvel Comics, but he does exhibit many characteristics similar to them. It’s possible that he could be reborn as one. Essentially, Galactus carries the ability to become a Celestial.
In the course of Marvel’s timeline, Galactus has been portrayed both as an antagonist and a cosmic being. Initially, he was introduced as a human character, adding depth to his mysterious origins.
His main danger lies in consuming entire universes. However, Fantastic Four Annual #26 proposes that once he completes his role as a World-Devourer, he may transform into a Celestial.
But currently, in line with this theory, Galactus is not a Celestial.
Although Galactus may seem distinct, he bears striking resemblances to the Celestials in terms of appearance and abilities. In Marvel’s lore, Galactus has been shown to undergo rebirth after death on several occasions. Thus, it remains a plausible scenario that Galactus could one day die and metamorphose into a Celestial.
It’s important to mention that Galactus has the potential for further development, possibly transforming into a Celestial. However, at this point in time, he is still classified as a cosmic entity, but not yet a member of the Celestials.
In the world of Fantastic Four comics, this character is well-known and frequently featured. You’ll get to see him for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the new Fantastic Four film hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
