The new X-Men ‘97 is already causing a buzz! Whether you’ve been waiting for a revival for almost twenty years, or you’re a new fan thanks to its 2024 debut on Disney+, the show is exceeding expectations and captivating audiences.
by Marvel, but that’s not the news of the day.
The real excitement for X-Men fans will come from what Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation, Brad Winderbaum, revealed about future plans.
According to Marvel executive Kevin Winderbaum, Season 2 will feature more than just the X-Men. He told Collider that two other teams with names starting with ‘X-‘ will also appear.
Two ‘Other’ Mutant Teams Coming to X-Men ’97
This animated Marvel project is as good as any of the live-action movies and shows released this year.
Now that the world is reeling from the devastating events of E-Day, especially the mutant population, what future lies ahead? The Season 1 finale, “Tolerance Is Extinction: Part 3,” includes a clear hint about who might arrive to play a role in what comes next.
The series of events possibly started when the meteor blew up, sending the X-Men to different points in time and space.
Sharp-eyed viewers of the X-Men series might have spotted something interesting in the Season 1 finale. At the 34 minute and 10 second mark, Bishop travels through time and meets Forge, suggesting they will become friends in the future.
X-Men ’97 Easter Eggs Reveal New Mutant Teams?
The display shows the current status of various mutants. Many of the original X-Men are listed as “presumed dead,” while others, including Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, are noted as being “off-world.” Sunspot, however, is marked as “AWOL.”
Additionally, several mutants haven’t been officially assigned by Forge, as he’s apparently searching for individuals to continue their work (according to Bishop). These mutants—including Colossus, Dust, Havok, Exodus, Shadowcat, Magik, a powerful telepath, Emma Frost, and the incredibly powerful Iceman—seem to be readily available and currently on the planet.
X-Men fans are anticipating that both X-Factor and Weapon X-Men could appear on Disney+ this summer. X-Factor features popular characters like Havok and Quicksilver, who were central to the season finale and are being pursued by Forge. Meanwhile, the presence of Old Man Logan and Mystique, a longtime associate of Magneto, strongly suggests what Weapon X-Men will be about.
Simply put, X-Men ‘97 aims to continue the strong start of its first season, and all signs point to it succeeding. In fact, Season 2 looks poised to be one of the best Marvel projects ever made, at least in my opinion – as a longtime X-Men fan!
