Marvel Actor Threatens to Leave X if “Negativity” Doesn’t Stop

Marvel actor Vincent D’Onofrio recently said on X (formerly Twitter) that he’ll leave the platform if things don’t become more positive. D’Onofrio, known for speaking his mind, explained he wants to avoid negativity online because life is already difficult enough. He plays the character Kingpin in Marvel projects.

It’s ironic that he’s making this request, considering his past behavior. D’Onofrio often makes statements that cause controversy and has a pattern of temporarily leaving, then returning to, social media platforms like X and Instagram.

D’Onofrio Issues Warning to Followers

Look, I’m a pretty straightforward guy, and I’ll be honest – the negativity on my X account is getting to me. I posted yesterday saying that if things don’t improve, I’m going to step away. Why put up with constant negativity when you can just… not? Life is hard enough as it is, and I think most people will get that. I’m just hoping we can all keep things fun and positive. That’s all I’m asking for, really.

If the negativity keeps up, I’ll stop using X. I think most people would agree that it’s okay to step away from negativity and harassment – we don’t have to subject ourselves to it. Life is difficult enough as it is.

I’m a little confused about what this whole thing is reacting to. The actor hadn’t said anything new since Sunday, when he’d posted a slightly cheeky Easter greeting to his fans.

There’s speculation he was reacting to online chatter about the upcoming second season of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Before the show was released, many fans were talking about how it might be very political and cause strong disagreements.

At the premiere, actor D’Onofrio explained that the events of the second season would be particularly unsettling for people from New York. He noted that some of the storylines are frightening to consider if they were actually happening in real life.

Vincent D’Onofrio doesn’t just appear in a show inspired by real-world happenings—he’s also been open about his political views. Because social media allows fans direct access to celebrities, being online can unfortunately mean facing some negativity.

The best way to prevent criticism, D’Onofrio has found, is to simply not participate – a tactic he’s used before.

A Pattern of Stepping Away

In 2019, actor Michael D’Onofrio and his wife were targeted with online harassment by some supporters of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. D’Onofrio publicly criticized the campaign and said he might leave Twitter, but he didn’t. More recently, in 2023, following changes to the Disney+ series Daredevil, he deleted his account on X (formerly Twitter) and made his Instagram private. However, he consistently returns to social media.

It’s unclear how the actor will react to the recent criticism. Someone commented on his post suggesting he might find a better audience on BlueSky, a social media platform known for its progressive users, but D’Onofrio quickly rejected that suggestion.

The Cost of Staying Connected

Many fans are wondering what it would mean if actor Giancarlo Esposito stopped using social media. While connecting directly with fans can feel personal and make him seem approachable, it also has downsides.

Even if he’s very careful about what he posts and sincerely tries to encourage positive interactions, he can’t control what others say online or how they react. Even someone with a lot of influence has limits when it comes to the internet.
