As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must admit that the announcement of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has sent ripples of excitement coursing through my veins! The prospect of delving into the rich tapestry of World War II, while traversing the mystical realms of Wakanda, is nothing short of tantalizing.
Previously this year, Amy Hennig from Uncharted revealed her debut project at Skydance New Media is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. This game pits Captain America against World War II’s Black Panther, Azzuri, who is the grandfather of the present-day Black Panther, T’Challa. The initial trailer hinted at a European setting during Nazi rule, however, it appears the narrative will also transport players to Wakanda and other locations.
Henning shared with EW that Wakanda and Occupied Paris are crucial settings for our story. We aimed to create a globetrotting narrative, with more unannounced locations scattered in between. Currently, Wakanda remains concealed from the world, securely nestled within an impregnable jungle. Although they prefer isolation, certain circumstances draw them into conflict. They must safeguard their interests. As the world shrinks, one wonders for how long they can remain hidden from sight?
Henning hinted that another super-soldier, unnamed, was present in Paris during this tale, which also happens to be where a new character from the game named Julie (played by Lyne Renée) is an ally in the French Resistance. It’s worth mentioning that, as previously disclosed, there are four playable characters in total within the game.
- Drew Moerlein as Captain America/Steve Rogers
- Khary Payton as Black Panther/Azzuri
- Marque Richardson as Gabriel Jones
- Megalyn Echikunwoke as Nanali
In the game, you’ll find Captain America’s companion, Howard Stark – father of Iron Man (Tony Stark in future times – voiced by Joel Johnstone. As for the game’s storyline, Henning is keeping it a secret for now. However, she has hinted at an enigmatic plot that will gradually unravel throughout the game’s narrative.
Henning mentioned that in such narratives, especially when dealing with an evolving enigma, it’s essential for the ‘MacGuffin’ to propel the characters forward. He was referring to a situation where there’s a looming danger and a common goal that all characters aspire to attain.
2025 is when we can expect the release of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, however, at this moment, there hasn’t been an official announcement about its launch date yet.
