Martin Scorsese to Direct Film of Robbie Robertson Tribute Concert

As a movie enthusiast with decades of film appreciation under my belt, I must say that this news about Martin Scorsese directing the Robbie Robertson tribute concert is nothing short of a cinematic symphony!

I’m thrilled to share that come Thursday evening in Los Angeles, Martin Scorsese will be at the helm, directing a tribute concert for the remarkable Robbie Robertson. This exciting event is planned for a future release, as announced Tuesday morning.

Filming “Life Is A Carnival: A Musical Celebration Of Robbie Robertson” could serve as a sort of conclusion or closing chapter to Scorsese’s first film collaboration with Robertson, which was the concert movie “The Last Waltz,” produced by Scorsese in 1976, marking the final concert performed by Robertson and his band, The Band.

The artists scheduled to perform at the Kia Forum on Thursday are Trey Anastasio, Eric Church, Eric Clapton, Warren Haynes, Bruce Hornsby, Jim James, Daniel Lanois, Taj Mahal, Van Morrison, Margo Price, Robert Randolph, Nathaniel Rateliff, Allison Russell, Mavis Staples, Bobby Weir, and Lucinda Williams.

The main musical act for the evening will be composed of Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (all from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), Don Was, John Medeski, Dave Malone, Terence Higgins, Cyril Neville, Mark Mullins, and the Levee Horns.

For several decades, spanning from “The Last Waltz” to Scorsese’s passing in 2023, Robertson played the roles of both music supervisor and composer, with his final contribution being the score for the film “Killers of the Flower Moon.
