Martha Stewart Wants a ‘Version Two’ of Netflix Doc About Her Because It ‘Left Out a Lot’: There’s ‘More to My Life’

As an ardent admirer of Martha Stewart, I must say that her life story is nothing short of extraordinary. At 83 years old, she continues to captivate audiences with her resilience, ingenuity, and unwavering spirit. Her recent remarks about the documentary chronicling her life, however, have piqued my curiosity.

Martha Stewart has expressed her interest in a revamped documentary chronicling her life.

83-year-old entrepreneur Martha Stewart has mentioned on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon that the documentary by R.J. Cutler, titled “Martha,” omitted significant aspects of her life. She hinted at discussing a potential sequel with the producers, stating, “There’s more to my life story… I feel like we might have overlooked some good parts…

In an interview with the New York Times last October, Stewart expressed her astonishment at the small amount of material from her archives that director Cutler decided to incorporate in the Netflix documentary dedicated to her.

Additionally, she mentioned that the director used multiple cameras to capture his subject during filming, and expressed dissatisfaction with his creative decisions in the production process.

Stewart advised him, “Pick a less unattractive perspective,” to the New York Times. And I said, “Avoid that viewpoint! It’s not the most flattering one. You had multiple cameras at your disposal. Opt for an alternative angle.” However, he refused to adjust his choice.

Stewart found issue with other elements in the Netflix documentary, specifically the use of a classical soundtrack by Cutler and the emphasis placed on the trial that took place in 2004 involving the lifestyle mogul.

In my perspective, it wasn’t a significant event when compared to the vast span of an 83-year lifespan. The trial and imprisonment only accounted for a brief moment in time.

The author of “The Martha Rules” acknowledged that she enjoyed the movie’s initial part and further revealed that the documentary delves into subjects that might be unfamiliar to many viewers.

Stewart mentioned that numerous girls have shared with him how the show empowered them, revealing a hidden strength within them. The character portrays a strong woman fighting for herself amidst terror and triumph, offering a powerful message of resilience and self-expression.

Cutler defended himself against Stewart’s criticisms of the Netflix documentary, saying to EbMaster, “I playfully pointed out that she seems to be the only one giving us a negative review.” The director of the “Martha” film further stated, “I believe it takes great bravery to trust someone to tell your story. Martha – she was wholeheartedly involved, not just in an interview, but also by sharing her extensive archives. She may have ended or made the film differently. So, I respect her opinion, she has the right to offer her critique.

“Martha” is available to stream on Netflix.
