Mark Zuckerberg Doesn't Think You--Or Anyone Else--Can Beat Him At Civilization

As a long-time Civilization enthusiast, I am beyond thrilled at the prospect of watching Mark Zuckerberg stream his gameplay on Twitch! The man behind one of the world’s most influential tech companies has always been a mastermind, and it seems he’s just as adept at leading armies and managing empires as he is at running a multi-billion dollar enterprise.

At the Meta Connect 2024 event, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Meta, hinted at starting a Twitch channel dedicated to the strategy video game, Civilization. During his conversation with Pubity, he openly expressed his intense fondness for the game, stating: “When it comes to strategy games, I strive to be the best in the world at Civilization.” Zuckerberg didn’t clarify which version of Civilization he prefers, suggesting it could be either the original or a newer addition from the series.

Mark Zuckerberg shared details about his gaming habits, playfully commenting on his wife’s response to seeing his gameplay hours. “Priscilla recently looked at my Steam account and exclaimed: ‘Really? You’ve spent over a thousand hours on this?'” He added, “I’m considering setting up a Twitch stream where I play with someone. I believe I’m close to achieving grandmaster status. I doubt anyone could outplay me in that game.

The popular video game series, Civilization by Sid Meier and created by Firaxis Games, has been bought more than 50 million times worldwide, as reported by the publisher, 2K Games. In the past, Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his admiration for this game, reminiscing during his 2017 Harvard graduation speech that he received his college acceptance letter while engrossed in playing it.

It seems that Zuckerberg’s remarks were made at a time that aligns with attempts to redefine his public image. In this recent interview, he wore a black tee displaying the phrase “Zuck or nothing” in Latin, which is quite different from his typical plain gray attire.

After making some comments, well-known Civilization streamer Potato McWhiskey posted a challenge on his YouTube channel, saying, “Mark Zuckerberg, I hereby issue a 1v1 challenge to you in Civilization.” The official Civilization account also replied, “We’ll meet in the arena, Zuckerberg.

Fans of Civilization are anxiously looking forward to the upcoming new version, slated for release on both PCs and gaming consoles in February 2025. For some special versions, early access begins on February 6, but the general public can expect the game to be available from February 11 onwards.
